A couple hours ago, I would've sworn i saw Angelina Jolie waving around a gen3 in one of her comic-book movies. I'm pretty sure the actor 'Common' (in the same movie) had one, too.

Easy mistake to make. Same gun just a single stack.

And Sean Penn used an early model 6906 with the square trigger guard in State of Grace.

Dekes lost his Beretta during a chase. At the end of that episode, Heddy gave him a S&W box and says "try not to lose this one".

I get the impression whoever wrote that is definitely into guns. The sub-plot was subtle enough that casual viewers don't catch it, but it goes like this:
  • Kensi- everyone likes Sigs. We all have Sigs. Why do you have that old Beretta? It's bulky. Get a Sig.
  • Dekes- I've carried my Beretta a long time. I've trained on a slide safety, my fingers know where to go. I'm not losing all that just to be cool. Sigs have a totally different layout.
  • <loses the Beretta, looks sad>
  • Heddy- here, take this Smith and keep your muscle memory. Same controls as Beretta, more compact like that snot-nosed kid's P228.

During the final bank robbery in Point Break, the off-duty officer used a 6906.

Marsellis Wallace used a 4506 in "Pulp Fiction".

My single favorite movie of the 90's!

Default 5904 on Big Bang Theory

Please note that

A. The decocker is in the SAFE position throughout the entire scene.

And

B. Penny racks the slide BEFORE inserting the magazine and still manages to chamber a round.

Will Smith had a 3913 (NS or LS) in Men in Black, when he was NYPD before he was recruited into the MIBs.

This brings backs memories. As a kid I loved watching the reruns of Miami Vice. That big 4506 stood out to me as much as the Testarossa and Ray-Bans. As a teenager I remember Denzel and later Vic Mackey waving that thing around. That model always stood out to me, the big slide and those big sights. A lot of movies had the 5906s and 4006s, but something about that 4506 sure was special.

Not a whole lot of difference in size (if any) between the Beretta and Smith 5904. And the Smith has to be heavier since it's all steel.

I beg to differ...

I don't have a 5904, but they're alloy framed with a blued slide. I do own a 915, which is also the same materials. It's much smaller than my Beretta 92FS; a good inch shorter, maybe more.
My CZ 75 and Hi Power are also both longer and heavier.

Yeah, I always thought it was interesting that Agent Walker in Chuck always grabs her stainless Smith.

I thought I saw Deeks with a 1911 at one point too, but I forget.

Watching The Shield is what drove me to get a 4506. I'm glad I did since it one of my favorite pistols.

New NBC series "Shades of Blue." On the second episode from 1/14/2016, the character played by Jennifer Lopez reaches for her off duty weapon and it's a 3rd gen. Quick flash, but looked like either a 6906 or 3913. I think NYPD can still carry a 3953TSW for a backup, but I doubt there was that much attention to detail.

Bump-
Captain America Civil War; Zemo (the bad guy) has what looks to be a 5906. Scene at the end, where he's talking to Black Panther, you very briefly see the unmistakable lines of a S&W of either 9mm or .40 (I recognized by the machining on the frame). Then the camera zooms to the actors, and you can see the slide safety.

I can't find an image of the frame online, but here are a couple of the slide

I notice the safety moves position in these shots, I guess they had several takes.

Funny you bring up this show (I love it --- seen the whole series), I always thought it was an ongoing SIG commercial. SIGs everywhere...along with yogurt.

Crockett.

Miami Vice Season V

Smith & Wesson 4506-NO

Smith & Wesson M645 Transitional Model-Yes.

IMFDB.com wrong-Yes.

I know the collector personally who bought it from Charlie Gaunci Sr. along with notorized Letter of Authenticity and a well worn Galco JackAss rig. I also have pics.

Shows shot in Canada usually feature Berettas or Smiths simply because of their handgun laws, even when licensed. Even if the show supposedly takes place in the US, most cops seem to carry 92s or 5906s in the shows shot there.

I just learned something today. That's pretty cool.

Any pics showing the difference? Most of the filming showed the muzzle end!

Not to argue, but simply in the spirit of this topic, "Rookie Blue" is an ongoing prime time network series and follows big city cops likely in the Toronto area and while they seem to never come out and say it, it's absolutely Canadian in every way. I admit that I haven't watched it lately, but in my experience the show is Glock Glock Glock Glock and more GLOCK. Almost like it's the only handgun the prop department has access to.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but the gun used by Seth Rogen as a cop in SuperBad looked like a 5906. However when fired at the sign in the drunken parking lot scene, the safety is down the whole time.

Seth's was a 6906, I believe, while Bill Hader loaned his .45 to McLovin!

When she was welcomed to the unit, they presented her with a Kel Tec back up gun. Looked like a P-11.

Yeah, that's the point. Prop guys and armorers in Canuckistan don't have a whole lot to choose from.

5606/4006 and Beretta 92/96s are readily available, as well as 2nd gen Smiths. All pre Canadian Ban stuff.

Petepeterson:

A couple of pics of 645 transitional models. You can see why they are mistaken for a 4506.

Thanks. I thought the transitionals were 4-digit (i.e.-6450, in your case.) Am I wrong? Yours is clearly marked.

There were a number of variations.

Just my $00.02, but nobody was a bigger stud with a 3rd Gen S&W than Sonny Crockett....

Then the camera zooms to the actors, and you can see the slide safety.

I can't find an image of the frame online, but here are a couple of the slide

I notice the safety moves position in these shots, I guess they had several takes.
I was just thinking of this scene! I thought I was the only one who noticed the safety move LOL
