Default S&W 10mm magazine Floorplate Catch?

Long story short, my 1006 only came with one magazine. I ended up buying (for dirt cheap) all the parts to put another magazine together (including the +10% spring for both my mags, and new white followers), but I haven't been able to locate a floorplate catch for my second mag.

This is what I need:
Smith & Wesson Mag Floorplate Catch Assembly S&W 1006 1026 1066 1076

But I can't find one in stock anyway. Anyone have any advice?

I'm in the same boat. I have parts to put together about 7 or 8 mags but can't find that part anywhere. The best bet is to find one that fits a 45 mag and grind it a bit to make it less wide. Although I have had similar problems finding the 45 plate also.

Aww, that's not good to hear. I wasn't sure if that part from others (9 and 40, specifically...didn't think about the 45) would line up the hole on the baseplate or not.

Here is a link to the plate for .40's and 9mm, but clearly they are not drop in replacements.

Not sure if they could be made to fit or not.

I had recently purchased 6 S&W 1006 magazine rebuild kits from joes pawn shop. The magazine springs were too wide to work in the 10mm follower so I returned them for a refund. The rebuild kit has magazine floorplate, floorplate catch and spring (wrong size spring). These were $28 a kit. Joes had 17 kits available at the time a week ago. Joes had listed a couple of these kits on ebay that sold for $16 and $20 that is how I contacted them to purchase them in the first place. Ebay item # 361311998487 I hope this helps and Thanks again tycoonbob.

Thanks JCR575!

That ebay listing ended, and so had the one they relisted. However, I am seeing these rebuild kits listed on their website, and just ordered one. $29.90 + $6 shipping seems high, especially considering you can get the +10% spring for $7 and baseplate for $3 from Midway. However, it seems my options are limited to find one of these catches, so I will gladly do this.

I have been reaching out to a few local machine shops, but the best they could do is $15 to make those catches, with a minimum of 20. A $300 investment seems a bit much to get the one I need, and it would be tough to sell 19 more to someone for ~$20/ea (cover shipping and my time/gas to pick them up).

Oh well, $36 and I have one on the way. I'm pretty much $65 into a new 10mm mag, but based on eBay prices, that isn't so bad.

So I ordered that magazine rebuild kit on Friday, and received it today. Talk about fast.

Anyway, the kit contained the mag spring, baseplate (that says S&W -- as opposed to the baseplates that come from Midway that say "10mm"), and the baseplate catch.

The catch was oversized and would not fit. I had to do a good bit of filing on both sides, and the rear (where it attached to the spring) to get it to fit, so it's definitely not a Smith & Wesson part. Regardless, I got it fitted and it works great, so I'm happy. Seems pricey for that kit, but since I only needed one, it was worth it to me.

Now I have two completed magazines with the +10% springs, and new white followers. Yay.

Seems likely you got sold .45ACP parts not 10mm parts. 10mm parts are made of unobtanium right now it seems and I suspect less-than-scrupulous sellers are taking advantage of that

Yeah, possibly. The envelope did specifically say that the parts were for a Smith 1006, but it's almost like they threw in a 45 catchplate. 5 minutes with a dremel, and it fit, though.

I'm in the same boat; I have the metal catch assembly but the nubbin fell off. The floor-plate seems to be staying on with nothing more than the spring pressure and that it has little reason to slide off, but I would like it to be right. I may drill out the spot weld and thread the hole, then put a little screw through the hole from the backside, so that the threads engage the hole in the floor-plate.

In the meantime, can you post a picture of your hand fitted .45 catch assembly?

I'm not convinced that the one I bought was a .45 baseplate, but more likely something Joe's Pawn Shop had machines somewhere (or someone had machined and sold in bulk to Joe's?).

Couple photos in an Imgur album, with descriptions:

That is exactly why I returned them after I purchased the 6 kits. I do believe that was a 45 magazine kit. The spring was too wide like I had explained earlier. I am glad it has worked out for you. Happy shooting!!!

Yeah, I didn't use the spring that came with that kit from Joe's, since I bought the +10% spring from Midway. I noticed it looked a bit different than my other springs, but I didn't actually try it.

I'm just glad I have two functioning mags now.
