Default $250 for a worn 459

I actually had to think about it for a bit. The finish was worn, I had one similarly used back in SC, I paid about the same for it. That one I had refinished with Duracoat or some such and sold before I left. I guess I needed a new, to me, one. I have not kept up on the price of second generation guns. I am assuming $250 was a decent price.

It came with one 14rd magazine, the old style with the S&W logo on a metal base piece.

I put $200 down on it and will pick it up later.

I do not know what I am going to do with it. I will need to buy, beg, or trade into a couple of magazines and a set of Pachs. I have a lot of 9mm sitting around so it is easy to feed.

For a long time I hoped to find a shooter grade 39-2, but failing that, this will do. I was a kid in the 1980s, so these were frequently shown on tv and many a movie.

That is a real good price even for a worn one. I payed $300 for a worn bad attempt at a re-finish 469 and had it cerakoted love that little 2nd gen.
There is plenty of 59 series mags at least in this area at gun shows for around $25 for 14 shot

Wink

Pic attached.

I added the Hogue grip. Shows some wear, but really is not that bad at all.

I think it's a good buy, a gun dealer told me about 10 years ago that any S&W semi auto would bring $300 no matter the condition. Thanks for the pic and info.

Thanks to the passing of many Smith and Wesson autos out of law enforcement use, I was able to order a Gould and Goodrich belt holster for it and pay only an additional $20. I will take it out and shoot it tomorrow, but I do not expect any issues. I think it was carried more than it was shot.

Heck, at that price, if you do have it Cerakote'd, it'd still be a nice deal

It shot well. The last worn 459 I had ended up with a spray on finish that looked parkerized. This one I will just leave alone. Why it was selling for less than a Norinco Tokarev 9mm in the case next to it continues to be a puzzler. I suppose 2nd gen autos are not overly sought after right now. I will make it a point to check the pawn shops periodically and see if I can find a single stack.

I just bought a 659 and paid considerably more than that for it. Happy though. I love these old guns. They still get the job done just fine and just have more character to me than the new wave of polyframe stuff. Those are fine weapons too, they just don't do anything for me. Old school, I guess. Congrats on a great buy.

The gun continues to shoot well. It digested JHPs without a problem. I had to dial in the adjustable sights a bit but now it is hitting where I want. I ordered three of the MecGar 15rd sold as "Original Equipment" by CDNN. They came today along with a Gould and Goodrich magazine pouch I purchased inexpensively off Ebay. For a modest total investment, I will use it as a carry gun. It seems to work and finish wear makes it a good candidate to just keep using it.

I picked up this S&W 459 last year around Christmas time for $227 on gunbroker.com. A real nice shooter only a little holster wear on the muzzle.
