3906 to DOA. Possible?
Being a long time revolver guy, I am also a big fan of SW 3rd gen DOA autos. Request some learned opinions regarding the possibility of having my 3906 converted to DOA. Thanks in advance.

I think if you look in that thread you'll see it's likely to be possible. In fact it seems that S&W at least did some work on the both a 3944 and a 3946.
My guess (and that's what it is), is that the short production life of the full size single stack guns and much greater popularity caused S&W to give up the idea.
As it happens, Numrich has some parts, including a low profile hammer and double action sear for the 3944/46.

Yes. Quite easily.
See the link to my thread in jsbethel's response above.
The same four parts would convert your pistol.

I would love to convert my early, square TG, 6906 to DAO.
Especially if I can use the the later, MIM parts like my 5946 uses.
I'd like the DAO pull to be as short as that of my 5946.

That's probably not going to happen. The 5946 is the earlier style half-cocked DAO that was built as a dedicated DAO. The replacement parts that will go into your 6906 are the later style DAO 'conversion' parts that were meant to standardize on a single frame/slide between the TDA and DAO pistols. They give you something less than a quarter-cocked starting point. Rather than ending up with a 5946 trigger I think you'll end up with more of a 6906 first-pull-all-the-time trigger with no SA. Insert an empty mag in your 6906 after confirming that the chamber is empty and while pointing in a SAFE direction, pull the trigger repeatedly. That's pretty much what you'll have with the conversion parts.
What makes more sense to me is to either trade for a 6946 or sell your 6906 and buy a 6946. Being less well known, and therefore less popular, the xx46 generally sells for $50-100 less than an xx06 and you're not spending $100 in conversion parts to make your gun less valuable. And you end up with a better trigger. Mechanically and financially a trade makes the most sense, but the one drawback(if you consider it such)is that I don't think you'll find a 6946 with a square TG. I've never seen one although the round trigger guard 3rd gens are flattened and checkered to serve the same purpose.

Jaymo, If you install the same hammer and trigger in your 6906 as those installed in your 5946 you will have the same trigger pull as your 5946.

I cut my teeth on TDA. I'd swap my 6946 for a similar condition 3906.
