Nickel Md 59 an Unexpected Buy
I had been wanting a nice Md 59 to add to my 1st Gen accumulation. I was hoping to find just a nice high condition shooter. I wanted one mainly for the historical importance of this gun. As America's first high capacity, DA semi-auto and the gun that inspired the name "Wondernne", I felt I really should have one...just because.
It turned out a bit nicer than I hoped. I found this superb example in my LGS complete with the extra magazine, box and papers. I bought it as used but can find no evidence of it ever having been fired. At any rate I was pleased to acquire it and am now pleased to show it to you.
This Md 59 dates to 1979 (A559419). However, it wasn't sold until February 8, 1985, three years after the run of 59s had ended. According to the original warranty card, the buyer bought it from P&M Alliance or maybe it's D&M Alliance. Maybe this is why it was shipped from S&W in a blue box instead of the traditional gray for nickel. It has both end labels, one hand lettered and the other machine printed that match to the gun. Anyone ever hear of P&M or D&M Alliance and where it was located?

I'm a sucker nickel especially in that condition. Did you rob the store or did you pay honestly for it? I could see that being worth close to a grand, especially with a blue box and not silver box. Nice find

Thanks guys for your kind replies. Yes, I had to pay an honest price. After sales tax I have about $650 in it. This was more than enough and I only got $25 knocked off the hang tag price, but I doubt if I'll ever have another chance at a nickel ANIB.

Loeman, I think that is a very fair deal. Condition is everything with old nickel guns, for me at least. However, the internals aren't nickel and you can never be 100% sure a 40+ year old gun is still "new"... I'd shoot the heck out of it.

I agree about condition in nickel. And yes, I think the price was OK. However, I think I'm going to crown this one a "queen". You know how you can always find evidence of being fired by poking around with a Qtip with some Hoppe's on it? Well I couldn't on this one. Even the mag followers were not scuffed from loading up the mags. Or maybe it was just cleaned really well. At any rate, I have other nines to shoot including my 39-2 and 5906 so I don't think I'll miss shooting it too much. Plus, it will be pleasant for me to offer this to someone someday in the distant future as ANIB.

That's a sweetie. I'd have jumped on it too. Not typically a big fan of nickel but I think 59s look great in nickel with those black grips.

I have 2-one in the condition yours is in, and I'm selling it to a friend for personal defense. They were originally developed for the Seal teams, albeit the black ones. Great find.
