Default School me on a 5906 with 5" barrell

I found a 5906 with 5" barrel for sale. The research I have done shows them (5") being the Super 9 with the 3 barrel set. This one appears to have lo-mount sights and is just in 9mm. What is a good price? Here again it is like my other Smith autos it is just something that is different and I like different and Smith. Don't plan to shoot it more than a few times, clean it and put it up for my wife to sell when I die. Thanks

Outside of the Performance Center guns, the Super 9 is the only 3rd gen 5" 9mm. There is a version that only includes one barrel, the serial number range for this version is KJF4555 – KJF4594; however these have adjustable sights. If the pistol you are looking at falls within this serial number range, someone probably just switched the sights, if it falls outside of this serial number range someone may have built a 5" 5906 using spare Super 9 parts. See post #9 in the link below for a homemade 5" 5906 (with a novak style sight).

I think this is an interesting piece but lacking any documentation, I don't think I'd be inclined to offer any or much premium. Now, with S&W never say never.
I'd be interested to know how the lockwork is on this gun as the Super 9s are supposedly SA. There are several product codes & no listing of features differentiating. There is one variant showing (in the linked thread) with low mount sights... and home brewed possibilities as well.
A letter would possibly enlighten us.

I have made an offer. A letter would be my first investment however I think even if homemade it would be neat.

My advice to gun buyers is this when you see a gun in a store... Take out your phone, do what you can to research the gun right there in the store with the gun in your hand, call a friend to research it or put a deposit on it and research it at home.

Too many times a guy like me will buy it out from under you and have a great story to tell while the guy who lost it has an "it got away story" :-)
