Third Gen. 645?
I'm not up to speed on all of the new third gen. S&W guns. I'm still having trouble keeping straight the first and second gen. ones!
I've just acquired a S&W 645 and my question is, did S&W ever come out with a double stacked magazine model of the 645? One with a magazine capacity of 13-15 rounds? I'm aware of the double stacked magazine S&W 59 in 9mm but is there a double stacked S&W in .45ACP? Appreciate any comments.

No. .45s and 10 MMs were only made with single column magazines. Their longer cartridges would have made 2nd or 3rd generation pistol handles too large and chunky and made their trigger reach too long for the first shot.
BTW, your 645 is a 2nd generation pistol. Its 3rd generation successor was the 4506.

Funny, while the 645 was a 2nd gen gun, I personally felt there were 2 generations of the 645. One came with the right side safety lever held on with a phillips screw, & the other with the safety lever held on with an Allen screw. The gun I had way back then had the phillips screw. My lever never fell off. Sold that gun years ago, & regretted it. Recently I picked up another 645, & the seller installed safety levers from a 4506. GARY

For all of us with large hands, a S&W double-action, double stacked magazine semi-auto in .45ACP would be a real crowd pleaser.

Agreed. Which is why I often switch the grips for Hogue rubber palm swell. I don't have large hands but I have long fingers which need to wrap around something

The 645 (and 745) has a distinction over all other 2nd Gen pistols in that the barrel bushing is fixed to the slide, sort of a preview or foreshadow of the 3rd Gen pistols (in all calibers) that would follow it.

No, because the 645 was already perfect. Apologies to John B. of course.
