Never fired 4013TSW
I recently traded a Mossberg 500A, for A S&W 4013TSW that has never been fired. It comes all original except a Hogue slip on grip has been added. I’m trying to decide what I should do, I have never shot one so I’m unfamiliar with it, I really like the way it feels and would actually like to put it in the rotation of a daily carry gun however I’m on the fence because it's never been fired, and in pristine condition. So I am asking for people of the forum to tell me what your thoughts are. Throw it in the vault so it never sees the light of day and pass it on to my children one day or carry it and use it regularly, or sell it. Any info and thoughts or suggestions are appreciated and thank you.
Just curious what would you value the 4013TSW @ today, and could anyone point me in the direction of additional magazines?

I shoot all my guns.
If there is something left to pass on, I will.

Nice gun! Good find. Pre-rail 4013TSW.
I'm glad it's in good shape but quit honestly I always assume they've really been fired when someone says it's unfired.
Who cut out the foam to make a place for a box of shells?
Not overly rare as they were made for 2 years (1997-1999), but a nice variation.
I'd put the value between $450 - $550, depend on variables.
I say shoot it & enjoy it. After all, you don't want to leave an "untested" gun for the family to have to "test" after you're gone?
.
4013TSW & 4056TSW (pre-rail)
.
4013 (non-TSW) - If you keep it you'll want one of these too, and then...
.

I just picked one up back in August. I haven't even fired it yet.
Values (i.e., asking prices) are really all over the map. I think I did well compared to what I am seeing on-line and at other shops... but then again, I had to pay a shipping fee and a transfer fee so it ended up being one of my more expensive 3rd Gens. I didn't get a factory box either.
There was a weird magazine mix-up by the out-of-state dealer so I only ended up getting one 4013TSW magazine with the gun. I purchased more of them via that big auction site that we can't mention. Look for the used cop turn-ins... they are a lot cheaper than brand new (NOS) and most ( but not all) are in really excellent condition.

I have one I bought new shortly after they came out. It has had less than a box of shells through it. I keep it loaded by the bed. I carry a CS 45, which came out later and is lighter by a bit, than the 4513 TSW. You have a nice pistol, take good care of it.

Sounds like you got the best of that trade, I would say the value for an ANIB 4013TSW pre-rail like this would be more like $600-$700. It may actually sell for less, it could also sell for more, but that's where I would value it at.
For CC, I think it would make an excellent carry gun. These are very reliable models, hide surprisingly well in an IWB, and can use the 11 round 4006 mags as well.
I would recommend keeping your eye out for another 4013TSW in used condition for a carry piece, and keep this pristine one as a backup/investment gun.

I purchased an unfired pre-rail 4013TSW in October, 2010 and paid $515 shipped. I agree with TercGen's estimate of 600 - 700. Can't agree with keeping it as an investment, however! They are excellent carry guns and that is what they were made for! I had the Hogue grips but put the originals back on, as the Hogues were just too thick for me.

- Appreciate the responses the foam being cut was an idea of the first owner. But like you I asked the same? Who did that?
- I’m not all that up to speed with the 4013 platform being that I’ve never seen one in person that I know of. And only being around the age of 14 when the 4013TSW came out I defiantly didn’t have any interest in it.
- I defiantly think I got a great deal on the trade and even feel slightly guilty. But I did ask the gentleman if he understood what he was doing and he said he was more than happy to swap a pistol he never uses. For a shotgun his son was going to probably use till it falls apart.
- As far as a carry gun it defiantly seems to have all the right qualities, for the job, it’s one of the handguns that you can just tell when you pick it up. Surprisingly enough as its one of the heavier hand guns for CC it’s really not bad or feel as heavy as it is. I say that being a modern concealed carrier, meaning the XDS’s and the pocket pistols my favorite is the LCP but I do like the bodyguard and have both the LCP for me just seems to draw better in more situations then the bodyguard with my body type/clothing choices the LCP just seems to have smoother edges.
- Trying to find another used 4013 seems like the best idea, however, I haven’t been looking all that hard, but so far it’s like they are non-existent. I’ve only found a few online and their prices to me seem a bit out there, and in my area there aren’t many shops and the ones here have a horrible selection for use firearms. People here either don’t sell them or the shop owners don’t sell very many used items.
- I’m more than sure I will probably never sell this 4013TSW, and I very much want to test it out. I can’t wait to shoot it, but at the same time it’s in great shape and I don’t want to ruin what looks to be so perfect. I will probably look to find a used one, but like I said that doesn’t seem likely.
- I have lots of? About the 4013?’S That I don’t even know to ask. That being said, do any of you have any experience with what looks to be tremendous wear to the frame right where the chamber and feed ramp contact the frame. From the tiny amount I’ve researched that seems to be one of the greatest problems. From what I’ve read and it seems to make sense, that the.40 S&W pressures and the aluminum alloy frame combination can tear it up pretty decently.

The frame wear you describe is common, especially on alloy-framed 40's and 45's; but, if there is a lot of wear there on your pistol, it's probably an indicator that your pistol has been fired more than you were lead to believe. If someone test-fired it after years of it sitting on the shelf, it's possible that the recoil springs may have been weakened from age or environment, and this could make the damage worse from even one magazine of ammo.
But hey - you still got a good deal if this pistol is indeed used, and in that case maybe don't feel worried about carrying it?
I would for sure put a new recoil spring set in the gun before shooting it yourself. Here's a link for each spring:

The 4013 that I have has zero wear but that’s one of the main things I’m concerned about. And that’s really my only reason for not wanting to shoot it.
thanks for the link's be nice to have extra just cus.

Guys, a 4013 and a 4013tsw are two very different guns. The 4013 is based on the large frame 3rd gen single stack mag like the 4513. The double stack mag 4013tsw is based on the medium wide frame like the 6906 only with a wider dust cover and square cut rails. I was getting confused about which gun you were talking about in the tread here. There is a difference between the early 4013tsw and the latter rail ready gun though just cosmetic.
sorry bluedot didn't pay attention to your 2nd picture

OK, I guess I misunderstood you earlier. But seriously though - get some new springs for your gun before you shoot it. I bought a New Old Stock 457 that had been sitting around for 6-7 years, and when I shot it, I got some heavy galling on the frame because I didn't change those springs out first.
When it comes to finding another 4013TSW, you're going to have to be patient and diligent to catch a nice deal. I would recommend checking Gunbroker daily, and keeping some funds set aside so you can act when you need to.

Sadly, there's your answer. You never seem to find one when you're wanting & looking for one. Most you find will be ratty & overpriced.
Shoot the one you've got & enjoy it!
As added protection, instead of installing the factory dual recoil springs (which may be hard to find) go with ISMI's flat spring for compact Glocks (Yes, Glocks!). Get at least the 18# (GLC-18lb) & a 20# (GLC-20lb) to try. (The 4013TSW's slide & barrel weighs 14oz. The 4013's weighs 17oz.) I currently have a 22# in my 4013 (I like full loads) & a 20# in the 4013TSW.

PS: Here's a couple flat springs threads but I know these's more:

I found some mags fairly easily when I first picked up mine.
Love to shoot it and like that it will accept my 4006tsw mags as well.
If you are set on not firing it, I'll trade to make you feel better.

birdman1978: it all depends on what your offering. however I am really over all happy with the 4013TSW so it would have to be a great trade.

Sorry, it would be 4013tsw for 4013 tsw. Because my 4006tsw isn't going anywere.
I was playing but if it would help make your decision any easier I figured I'd try and help a fellow third gen'er out

I've been looking at a 4013 at the LGS.
I don't own a .40.
Isn't this the gun that can be converted to 10mm?
It looks to be a single stack.
