Do you have the original box? If so, there should be a four digit "spec ord" number that can be decoded. The first digit indicates the year, so you have to at least know the decade. 9 would indicate 1989 as suggested by 824tsv. The next three digits represent the day within the year, from 1 to 365, 1 being January 1, 365 being December 31.

No box or anything. Found it on GunBroker.com and it just so happened to be a LGS that was selling. I won the auction and got lucky not having to pay shipping and transfer fees. It Looked like they got a bunch of them from law enforcement turn in our something because they had ten or so on the side around the same time. Just the gun and one magazine. It did and cleaned up good so I am not really worried that much about it. Just thought I would ask.

6906 TDS7497 = 03/2000 per S&W customer service.
California Department of Corrections trade-in.
