Default New to me 4043 and now looking at another 4043 or 4044

First post here, so hello everyone!

I recently picked up a police trade-in 4043 with 3 mags for a just over $300 +tax. It's the first 1st-3rd Generation SW I've ever owned, and just picked it up as a beater/truck gun. I have to say so far I've been pretty impressed with it. Despite the DAO trigger its really easy to shoot accurately, grouped tightly at 15-20 yards, and would easily hit an 8" steel plate at 50 yards if I did my part.

That said, I've recently come across a few more SW semi autos and am considering picking up another. One is a 4044 for $260, pretty good shape but for a few spots on the slide. The other is another 4043 for $299 that's overall in better shape than my current 4043. I don't know whether either of these come with a box or more than one magazine.

Would one be more desireable over the other?

Also since I am new to these guns in general any conversation, comments, or helpful info is welcome. Thanks in advance.

I have 2 4043s that I picked up $300 each. They are great carry guns, but I only carry the one that has more wear marks on the slide. DAO guns make perfect carry guns in my opinion. You can send the slide into Trijicon to have the night sights relamped for about $20 per lamp if they came with the original Novak night sights. If not, you can buy Novak style Night sights from Trijicon directly but they are a bit on the pricey side (depending on the model, from $125 up to over $200!).

Welcome to the forum. You will enjoy the 4043, great gun. As you are looking for another, you may want to consider the 4046. It is the same as the 4043 but with a stainless frame instead if alloy. Its heavier, but more durable IMO and these aren't for concealed carry anyways.. Also, the stainless slide and frame are easily cleaned up to like new with a scotchbrite pad. Prices for the 4043 and 4046 seem to be about the same.
