1911 trigger question - need help
OK - not a S&W but will give it a shot anyway.
Was shooting the Colt 1911 at the range and and on round #2 the trigger would not move. Cleared the round by racking the slide - round fires. Next round up, trigger will not pull. Locked up tight.
Rack the slide, pull, gun fires, next round - trigger will not move.
Cleaned the gun - same story.
Any thoughts??

Is the gun new to you? Have you shot it before?
Sounds like you may have a problem with the grip safety. Suggest a trip to gunsmith as it may not be a simple fix

Does it have an over travel screw on the trigger?
If so, it may have turned on you and limiting your trigger movement.

I'd field strip it,then dry fire it and watch what's going on internally.Use your thumb to ease the hammer down when you do this.

Hold the trigger back and cycle the action....then release trigger. Are you hearing the "click" when the sear/trigger reset? If not, you may not have enough room/overtravel in the trigger for this to happen. (post #3)

make sure its slide is going all the way forward, could be ammo holding the slide open just a little, ive had that happen with high primers that were only protruding about 0.020" was enough to not let the trigger drop the hammer.

You nailed it - thanks
Doing a dry fire cycle it seemed to work every time. Holding the trigger back while cycling the slide produced the malfunction- the trigger failed to reset.

tore the gun apart down to the screws. Appears as though the disconnect pin was hanging up - most likely from some old gun oil that had been there too long.
Sprayed all the parts and the frame with some brake cleaner, dried and reassembled the gun. Shoots fine now - thanks again for the advise and steering me down the right path.
Much appreciated
