Default Lanyard Loops

I saw some pictures of a 5906 Military that featured a lanyard loop on the butt. Did Smith ever offer a loop as an option or extra on any 3rd generation guns?

Thanks, Mike

I'm resurrecting this 2 year old thread because I too am curious. Seems my model 59, 459, and 439 each have one at the end of the back strap but not my 469 or 659. And none look like the one on this 469.......

I don't know why but I like lanyard loops. They just seem practical on a woods gun.

Thats my 469, it was one of the "minnie guns" sent out to various gun magazines for evaluations. When it came back it was one of the guns put in the employee raffle that was offered at S&W. You would put your name in and you could pick from the guns offered, first name picked got the first choice, and so on.These were various revolvers, shotguns and semi autos pistols that were not quite the quality of finish and wear to be offered to the public, of course the price was right. I remember shotguns going for $50. I rebuilt the gun from the frame up and added a few extras like the lanyard, a bobbed knurled hammer and polished trigger. I also fit the barrel to have more of a 52 like fit to the bushing. Having built the model 52 for the previous 7 years, I also fit it with upper and lower trigger stops so it can be single action only like the 52. i wish I had a before photo, It wasn't pretty

Hi, donk52!

Welcome to the Forum!

Nice work on the 469!

I do not mean to hijack this thread from the OP, but I have come into possession of some items that seemed to come from the S&W Experimental Shop, including this slide: Factory Experimental 5906 Slide

And safety lever: Factory Experimental 5906 Lever

Do you know Dave Nash or Dwayne Charron?

I would like to learn the history of these items and share them with the Forum if I can gain some insight.

Any help or contact info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Nice work and a good looking gun. Is that lanyard ring a one-off or production? It doesn't resemble any I've seen.

Sorry I don't know Dave or Dwayne, I left in 1989. I looked at the items you shared, reminded me of some things I did on my 469. I have some closer shots of the slide stop, safety, hammer and extractor I customized for a little more aggressive contact. the lanyard is something I had laying around. I took a look at others that I have and found it was the only one of that type. The others I have are round ,blue and stainless and oblong blue and stainless.

Very cool, donk52!
I also like the checkering on the recoil spring guide.
The slimmer controls make good sense on a carry pistol.
The safety paddles look like they would still allow solid thumb contact and I would like to get a closer look at the slide stop.

Very nice detail!
Was the checkering difficult to do on the concave surface of the slide stop?

And did you work with a fellow named Thom Marx?

This was a standard 469 stepped slide stop. Hand checkered and blued.
I do not know Tom, sorry
