4506-1 (R4) at LGS
Passing through Austin, TX today and saw a beautiful example of a 4506-1 (later "R4" model) with original box at McBride's Guns. VERY nice condition. Had just came in, and had not been priced yet.
Someone should stop by and purchase this... Santa, are you out there?!?

Thanks for the head's up on the 4506-1. My 4506 no dash is gonna have to do for right now but if I was in the area of Austin I'd darn sure have a look/see on that one.

OK - I gave you guys a shot at it....
... then I went back and bought it.
$400 with the original box & docs, 3 mags, and the extra spring for low-power loads.
At least it's gone to a good home!

Congratulations! Beautiful 4506-1. $400??? I hope you bought a lottery ticket on the way home! I look forward to your range report. Many here have found the R4 variant to be the most accurate of the 4506 series pistols.
Enjoy that fine 45! Regards 18DAI

You are the "fat rat in a cheese factory"! Excellent find on an excellent S&W 45. Like a few of us here on the Forum have been lucky enough to learn, the 4506-1 is big fun at the range. Mine is headed to the range today as a matter of fact. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm considering selling mine with 6 new mags. I'm liking my 4516-1 much more and I want another 45acp revolver.

The R4 4506-1's were the last revisions of the 4506-1 models. They were also the variant produced for LE special orders made after the "official" end of 4506-1 production in 1999.
LE agencies were still able to order brand new 4506-1 pistols up until around 2006 or so. An R4 4506-1 was what they recieved.
It has been the experience of several members here and on other boards, myself included, that the R4 4506-1, or 4506-1 "dash 3" as they are sometimes referred to due to the "03" on the end label, are the most accurate of all the 4506 models. Virtually all of them had exceptionaly good triggers as well. S&w still included a good trigger on their handguns back then. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI
