Exclamation New SW22 Victory 22LR target pistol?

Are any of you aware that S&W has a new target pistol out called the SW22 Victory? Product code 108490. My distributor has them in stock.

Looks like a cross between a Ruger and a High Standard. Certainly not the prettiest pistol I've seen.

I'd bet that the "Victory" name evoking a mental connection to "Victor" is no accident.

The look has an obvious likeness to the HS Victor that S&W marketing is probably hoping people will believe is a resurrection of that already well known and respected target pistol.

Now excuse me for now because I think I'll go for a ride on my Hedley Devidsen motorcycle.

Default New S&W 22 Target

That photo made me take out my half dozen vintage 60's-70's .22 target pistols and appreciate them all the more. Willyboy

Must be the replacement for the 22a. I have a 22a. Not the classiest thing S&W ever built but it shoots really well and has a decent trigger. Ain't much to look at though.

Probably to be formally introduced at the upcoming SHOT show. Here is the link to the factory page:

Product: SW22 Victory

It does appear to have the grip frame of the 22a series (probably takes the same magazines?), but a stainless upper frame, barrel and bolt. Looks as though it will be a good shooter.

This pistol is surprising and interesting. The whole grip frame appears to be polymer?

Just great!
Another S&W .22 I'm compelled to buy, like I need another.

Appears it is meant to be shot with open sights only.
I don't see a place to mount a scope or dot sight.

I would guess either the top (rear sight) rib is drilled/tapped, or removable for optics (or surprised if it is not ).

Looks like a re-worked 22A, but worse in the sense that now, you have to have, of all things, a hex wrench (perhaps it is torx, who knows) to remove the top half, as opposed to simply pressing a button on the 22A.

Sorry to be negative on this, but if excellent accuracy can be achieved on the Model 41 without having to have tools to take it apart, then why must we be subjected to this?

This makes me recall a recent thread on which guns we find difficult to clean, or something along those lines, and I posted something to the effect of "any gun that requires tools" to take it apart for cleaning. And, no, I do not count revolvers, as it does not take tools to swing out the cylinder. S&W has never recommended removal of the sideplate for cleaning.

Oh, and did I forget to mention that 22 LR ammo is still really difficult to find?

What we really need is a Gen 2 M&P with a modular serial-numbered chassis, and disassembly without the need to pull the trigger, or use of an on board tool (or any other tool).

Before everyone starts in about how the "others" are no good, and blah, blah, blah, the military and the market wants this, and S&W either gets on board or watches its sales start to decline.

Sorry for being somewhat direct about this, but S&W lost its LE market by not staying out front, and I would like not to see that happen again.

Well, the MSRP is $400 on this one and over $1000 for a Mod 41. Looks like it will replace the 22A. This will make a nice "Entry Level" target pistol.

I had a Colt Cadet many years ago but it didn't hold a candle to my much older Colt Woodsmans. Got rid of it. It kinda resembled this 'new' .22. I think I'll keep my sexy 41 Smith and my Colt Match Targets. Just because it's a low cost, entry level firearm doesn't mean that it has to be a webley/studebaker kind of thing. And before you gig me I had a Stude V8 Lark and several webleys in the safe.

I just watched the promo video online, so I'll just add a couple of notes based on that.

The promo video states that it comes with a picatinny rail.

The grip apparently has removable side panels, so I think it may be different from the 22A.

The promo video mentions that it will be compatible with aftermarket barrels. I found that unusual to mention in a promo video, and I wonder if there are aftermarket parts already in the pipeline.

I am a big fan of my Ruger .22 pistols, so I doubt I will be changing, but honestly I am already looking forward to shooting one of these.

Yeah,way over $1000 MSRP for the 41.
I think that it will sell well.SS frame, not alloy or polymer, other SS parts as well, and a low MRSP.

I see them for $410 at Sportsman's Guide and $359 at Kentucky Gun Co. But I would rather rent one first when they are more available, to try before buy.

Let's see now. When I already have a S&W 41, a Ruger Government Mark II target, two High Standard space guns and a Colt Woodsman Match Target, why on earth would I want such an ugly gun that can't decide if it's a Ruger or a Type 14 Nambu?

Aesthetics count. Particularly if says S&W on it. Ugh. Take the designer down to the river and take care of him, Luca.

I have a 22A also. Don't shoot it often but I do like it even though it's not too pretty. The trigger on mine is scarily light. When I switch from my 9mm and 40 cals I have to remember to be aware of how light the trigger is.
It will eat any kind of ammo that my friends much more expensive guns won't.
I kinda like the looks of the new Victory but I don't need another 22 cal. pistol right now since I am gun poor already!

Well I am going along with not the best looking pistol to come along. However there are some nice attributes, fiber optic front and rear sights, looks like not much of slide to worry about for recycling so that would make it a lot more adaptive to perhaps standard to high velocity ammo. Seems there are a lot of 'ammo sensitive' 22's around and this one likely is not one of them.........a good thing for sure.
Take down seems very easy unlike Ruger's system. Retail price point is $409-$429 so mid to upper $300's on the street??

Could be just an 'ugly good shooter'
I'm a little partial to this one I have but would love to shoot the new S&W!

It looks like a cross between a ruger and a buckmark to me but interesting. Would like to hold one.

You know what's pretty to me? -- A whole bunch of holes very close together on the target...

This gun looks very much indeed like a marriage of the buckmark with a ruger 22/45 grip.

Its accuracy would be far more important than its presumed aesthetics

Default Does Victory spell the end of the 41?

I talked to a service tech at SW yesterday (1/8/16), inquiring about the lack of 7" Mod 41 SW made barrels available from anyone, and if the factory had any insight about when they might produce a run (needing one, obviously). I did not get encouraging news, and they even intimated that the Victory might be the end of the 41. Also mentioned was a Volquartsen-barreled Victory coming right from SW now or in the near future. Kept suggesting that this is the future for SW target .22's.

Stated that hundreds of 41 barrels are on BO, and that they are not accepting any more orders for barrels. Even suggesting that aftermarket manufacturers might be where I need to turn.

Anyone have any clues about the future of the 41 and barrels?

Hi All...Newbie here. It does look just like my 22A-1 with a thinner barrel profile. Like others said, I'll stick with my 41 and 22A-1, which I do really like. FWIW, here is the Volquartsen link with barrels for this new SW22. With one of these and a proper trigger, it may be worth consideration...or it may not. https://www.volquartsen.com/tags/52-sw-22-victory

Time will tell. It's no uglier than a Ruger 22/45, and those are selling as fast as the factory can crank them out. If it has a decent trigger, it reliably feeds a wide variety of standard and high velocity ammunition and the price point is near or below a Ruger MKIII, I predict a rosy future for it. If there's anybody out there who seriously believes you can tell how a pistol shoots by how it looks or how much it costs, please contact me. I have some scarce and valuable beachfront property near the Las Vegas Strip I can offer you at a real bargain price.

My biggest complaint is the reusing of the name Victory, but at least they didn't call it the Bodyguard .22.

Bodyguard, Chief's Special, Military & Police all have been overused. Time for some new names. It worked with the Shield didn't it?

I do like the magazine release location better than the 22A/22S, but I am a righty. Hopefully they will release one with no sights and a picatinny rail on top with black or two tone finish.

S&W says that a picatinny rail is included, probably owner-installed.

I did notice it has a conventional magazine release, not the front-strap release of the 22a.

OK that video tells you a lot.

Looks like they've taken the take-down (although they've replaced the button with a bolt) they ripped off from High Standard for the 22a and combined it with ripping off the integral Ruger barrel / receiver / with an internal bolt design.

Not a bad idea. The only thing is to swap the barrel, since it comes with the receiver, ....well that makes it an FFL item I think.

I'm interested in checking out the SW22 Victory. I have 2 sw41s and i'm looking for a .22 pistol to just plink with . I only use standard velocity cci in the 41s, with the Victory i could use high velocity or what ever it will shoot.

Curious if doing a thorough takedown is as frustrating as taking down a Ruger MK1, II, or III...

If not, then it's already a winner in my book.

Not a huge fan of how it looks, but then again, I own and carry a Glock too... I'm a function over fashion fella.

Here's a link for Volquartson replacement barrels for the S&W Victory.

I'm betting this is just the next plinking class offering from S&W. Since I'm still smarting from my 622,422 and 22A (wishful) experiments, I'll pass.

If you want a true "target pistol" in the sub $500 range, stick with the proven Ruger MK II/III/22/45 or Browning Buckmark. All you need to do is to visit any rimfire Bullseye/Gallery League firing line in the country to see what works when the scoring starts. Other than the venerable model 41 (which cost way north of $500), you won't find many other S&W rimfire pistols there.
