4506-1 mags in a 4516-1?

Will 4506-1 magazines function in a 4516-1 the way 59xx mags function in a 69xx Series pistol? I know they will stick out due to there being an extra round but will they function reliably?

About 10+ years ago, I picked up an early (6+1) 4513TSW and still had a few 4506 mags from my P.D. days. They did fit and function; however, if memory serves, I had an occasional failure to feed. Not consistently, but enough to only carry the 4513 mags as backups and leave the others at home.

That could have just been the result of my aging, beat up mags.

Hopefully others with more experience or with an actual 4516 will chime in.

When I worked in plainclothes and carried my 4516-3 I carried a spare 4506 8 round mag on my belt as a reload. They work fine.

Be sure and use the last revision,the ones with the black follower if you are using them for serious purpose.

At the range, shooting for the fun of it, I have used 4506-1 mags with red and with yellow followers in all the different 4516 variants. All functioned reliably with no failures. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

I haven't tried any 4506 magazines in my 4516-1 yet, but i did get a good deal on an old magazine for a 645 with a metal follower that has been flawless on feed and function in the 4516-1. I only use it as a range magazine but it works.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll try picking up some of the most recent revision magazines. All I have now for the 4506 are the yellow follower mags.

Last I checked, Midway's got the correct black followers for the 4506 mags in stock. That and a new mag spring are much cheaper than a whole new magazine (though I'm all for a few more mags if you can afford it).

I've also used these longer 4506 mags in compact guns like the 457 with no issues.
