Default Frankengun.... oy...

Had one of the rare gun shows roll through. The problem with shows (here, at least) in a small town is that sellers run the prices kind of high from what they want in The Big City.

Anyway - couldn't get a picture, but seller had a 3913 frame with what looked like a 910 slide on it.

For $495.

Should I have snagged it?

Pass!

We had a show here in MA this weekend... a small show with at least half antiques. Being dead broke, I wasn't going to go... but the good wife needed me out of the house on Sunday so off I went in the pouring rain.

The second day of two days shows around here are pretty well picked over in terms of interesting items and bargains. I found only two reasonably-priced 3rd Gens for sale at the show: 1) A Model 909 in pretty good shape with a spare magazine and no box for $425 tagged price... and, 2) A Model 5943 in semi-decent shape with one magazine and no box tagged at $399. A Model 457 had sold before I got to the same seller's table. I couldn't really tell condition where it sat. I think it was tagged somewhere in the upper $300's.

I went home empty-handed except for a used but clean gray 3913LS grip. Couldn't even make a deal on some cheap PPU .45 ACP ammo. The last bulk box (500 rounds) sold right before I got to that table.

Despite being a blued value line gun (and me being a stainless steel kind of guy), that Model 909 could have been a reasonably decent pick-up for $400 or less out the door ($375ish + Tax). I doubt I'll have any more money to spend before the next show... but if I do, I might just pick it up if it's still around.

I wouldn't feel good about a frankengun of unknown origins at any price, but $495 seems pretty steep anyways.

The real problem would be that a 910 slide doesn't have the front rail grooves on the underlug, while the 3913 has front rails. While I've never tried something like that myself, in theory it should present some problems, and I think it was good that you passed on this one.
