SW1911 vs. SW1911 E-Series
SW-nation,
I currently own a SW1911 (sku #108282) non-billboard and was thinking of picking up an E-Series (108482). Is there a big enough difference between them?
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I have both and they are both excellent guns. The E-series guns do have a larger extractor and few extra thrills added. But one 1911 is never enough so I'm sure you can come up with many reasons to get one, I did.

Thanks, t-bird. This may be a stupid question, but the benefit of the larger extractor?
Thanks again...

S&W has put the larger extractor on there performance center guns for years. To answer your question I would guess its to make for better extraction. Also the new E-series has to be one of the best looking 1911's ever made.

I own and shoot both (pic attached missing a 1911SC 2007 vintage and a two tone 1911SC - twin to the all black one on the bottom right). They all shoot great. I would have to say that the new E series trigger is an enhancement over the old one. That being said, I cannot say I would buy it only for that.
My advice would be to keep your current S&W, save the $ or sell something else and get a E series also.

All I can speak for is the E-Series I have got about 600 rounds through and it is quickly becoming my favorite pistol out of all my others. Accurate as all get out sweet trigger and no hang ups on anything I have run through it. At least half of those rounds have been SD loads including +P and low recoil.

Agreed. I have over 1000 rounds through my 1911SC Roundbutt and it has eaten everything.
Only complaint I have had is it was fit so tightly that the grip safety started to gall a bit. My local gunsmith popped it apart, polished the offending areas and it has been great since.

I own the 108282 and my brother-in-law has the 108482. We shoot together all the time and try each others guns. We have not had any issues with either one. The only advantage/difference I would note is the slightly thinner rubber grip panels on the 282. Which makes it a little easier to conceal carry.

No thread talking about an "E" series should go so long without at least a picture of this beautiful firearm....

I've got a plain Jane S&W 1911. I picked it up in December. I loves the way it functions. Actually prefer to shoot it over my Sig 1911. It is a thing of beauty to me. Bob

Having trouble removing the ambi safety on my Smith & Wesson E-Series SW1911Sc. Anybody done it sucessfully? I'd like to get at the trigger to hone it a bit.

Maybe your question would generate more replies if posted in the gunsmithing forum.

Bob, to me yours is a true beauty and depicts a 1911. Do you have box with product number? I love the color and grips. If not just the product number, may have to get my hands on one. jack

I think that the trigger alone on the E Series makes it worth the price of admission. I have the 5" stainless E Series (non railed) and I find it to be superior to many of the more expensive 1911's that I've handled/fired.
I also have a Sig 1911 Emperor Scorpion that cost almost $100 more than my "E" did, but the trigger is noticably worse. Jiggly, more take-up, heavier, grittier, etc. The E Series is, hands down, the absolute best bang for buck value in 1911's priced at $1000 and less.

Just got this one today at an Estate sale along with 4500 rounds of cased Field and Stream 9mm ball ( 108482 ) is a 45 just if anyone asks.
Fit and finish appear to be top notch, hitting the range this weekend with her.

Agreed, I have numerous S&W 1911's my faves being:
108282
108303
108482 E series
All three are phenominally accurate, but I'd have to say the trigger on the E series is by far the smoothes, and lightest at 3lbs crisp.
