I have one in 9mm. She is current guarding the back of the safe and hasn't been exercised in a good 15 years...

I bought one in .45 ACP in 2003 and put it in the safe. It should still be there.

I don't think so. I own five SW99 variants myself and am bidding on yet another one as we speak. And that doesn't include the SW99 .45 ACP that I will get my hands on someday if/when God finally decides that I should have one.

I have a SW990L in .40. Very good ergpnomics. I've had it about eight years and can report no problems. I still get pretty good groupings at ten yards.

I still own and use my SW9940 (standard size .40) and SW999c (compact 9).

I have an SW99 in 9mm. It was my first gun! I took it out of the safe a couple weeks ago for the first time in about 10 years, and she was so happy - performed flawlessly. She now accompanies me to the range every week along side my Ruger SR22.

My SW99 in 9mm was also my first hand gun, interesting gun with cool features. Horrible trigger.

I've got the 990L but am having problems with the rear sight. It's loose, S&W sent me a new one and it's still not right. Gotta get some lock-tite me thinks and then it'll be back in the rotation. It's a great gun and I like it a lot, not as much as my 39's, but it's fun to shoot.

A very slight amount of "wiggle" isn't unusual in the old style 99 rear sight bases.
Even my steel Trijicon (factory) night sight rear base has some front/back wiggle, if pushed upon, and a lesser amount of side-to-side movement.
Walther did adopt a new design that's on some of their newer guns, which uses a "clamping sleeve" mounted underneath/inside the rear (steel) sight base.
The clamping sleeve design doesn't use the same plunger/spring/windage screw method of securing the sight in the dovetail as is used on the plastic rear sights, and it's recommended a sight pusher is used to install and adjust the sight base. The clamping sleeve is also a 1-time use part, and it's recommended a new one be used if the sight base is ever removed.

SW99 45
This felt very Waltherish (a good thing) but a tad larger. The trigger system is what Walther came to designate as Anti Stress (AS). The magazine release paddles were shorter than they are now and the trigger guard had a little rising contour finger guide no longer present in the Walther P99s. The SW99 45 shot accurately, short trigger reset, and the slide mounted decocker worked just fine. Nice pistol.

I have one in .40 as well. It was the first semi I ever bought or fired. I would like to get another for my son.

I have the Walther versions in 9 mm and 0.40 and the basic SW99 in 0.45. I do get some interesting "what is/are that/those?" when I take them out for exercize. Dave_n

The SW99 45 was the first gun I ever bought. I love it. Mine is 2 tone and has about 3000 rds through it. It performs very well and I have never had any issues with it besides the barrel seems to be wearing funny, but it still puts together good groups all the way out to 25 yards. I used to take it to the range every time I went but the ammo is so expensive that I only take it out every now and then.

I probably shoot my SW99 .45 sometime, or sell it to someone who will. It fits my hand pretty well.

I do not own one, but I did and will again someday. The Walther P99 / S&W SW99 were ahead of their time and are still a very serviceable fighting gun today. I am not a paddle mag release sort of guy, even though there is nothing wrong it. I just prefer to stick with the same manual of arms as much as possible.

I bought a used one in 9mm from a LGS a few years back. It must have had something wrong with it or had a zillion rounds through it. That thing could not hit anything at 25ft. I ended up trading it back in for a new M&P9. One day I would like to try and find another.

I have a SW99c in 40. I did have SW 99 40 that I also had a 9mm upper on, until it was stolen. The c is one of my carry pistols, since it functions like my 3rd gen TDA's.

SW99 etc. were nice products that I associate with S&W's flirtation with Walther. A pre-cursor to the M&P. I could have bought a lot of nice handguns if I was not too stubborn to buy 40 ammo. enjoy your SW 99. At the time, I recall wanting one - in 9mm. I ended up with the M&P instead.
