Jason at MaddMacs Precision Tactical made my FastFire III base. It is a vast improvement over the picatinny mount; the sight is so much closer to the barrel axis. The fit and finish is perfect. Just swap the S&W rail with this one; no modifications required. Jason even supplies the hex key to mount the base to the top of the receiver.
This is from his web site; there have been a few minor design improvements since this picture was taken.
This is my Victory with a FastFire III mounted on the MPT base

I am running a Fastfire III on mine and it drives tacks. The rail screw came loose but Loc Tite fixed that.

Torqueing it up to 40 inch pounds will also cure the loosing issue instead of the lock tight. Even a no. 61 rubber washer will do the same without any messy stuff to clean out later.

I've been using a #61 O-ring, since I don't have a torque wrench.
I've fired as many as 500 rounds, no movement on the screw.
$.59 each at TruValu or Ace Hardware. 1600 rounds and it still looks like I just put it on, but I splurged and bought two, just in case.

Dollar Store, complete set, down to 1/16, in a case, for about a dollar. Buy two.

I received my Victory, have put about 800 rounds through her, not one jam, ftf or any of that stuff, just did what a 22 auto should do. Groups are are naturally larger than my Mod 41, but accuracy is very acceptable. I like the subtle green dot sights. The barrel has not loosened up, the sights have not fallen off, it just shoots well.
Naturally I decided to dry fire it and I have a lot. Guess what, no damage, no broken firing pin, no dings on the chamber. The slide is a little tough on my hand from pulling on the slide to dry fire it. I can't imagine S&W, one of my most trusted firearm manufactures making one that would fall apart if dry fired. Had dry firing damaged the pistol I would have sent it back to S&W with no return address and a letter telling them what I had done and never purchased another new model S&W 22 auto.
I do not know how many times I have seen the same two photos of the damaged barrel and cylinder, but do know they have been displayed a lot.
A ring of crud did develop in the chamber just ahead of the mouth of the cartridge and groups widened out. This is very common with 22 rim fires with some ammo. I pulled a brush through the barrel from chamber to muzzle a couple of times and accuracy was immediately restored.
In short I find my Victory is very well made, reliable, accurate and good times.

I guess I need try the o-ring because both the barrel screw and the sight screw keep coming loose. I definitely have torqued the screws 40-60 and they still are coming loose and the screws are dry.

I assume you meant takedown screw instead of barrel screw. You might want to lightly lubricate your takedown screw; you will get about 1/3 more clamping force. I do this with 40 in-lbs torque and have never had an issue.
Clamping Force = Torque / ( Kf * Diameter )
Kf = 0.20 (dry) or 0.15 (lubricated)
Diameter of #12 cap screw is 0.216"
So, for 40 in-lbs torque on a dry screw:
Clamping Force = 40 / ( 0.20 * 0.216 ) = 926 LBS For 40 in-lbs torque on a lubricated screw:
Clamping Force = 40 / ( 0.15 * 0.216 ) = 1235 LBS And, a little lubrication will prevent damage to the threads in the softer stainless steel.

On the screw coming loose on the SW22 my first 60 rounds fired it came loose. Re tightened and fired 230 more rounds did not come loose. At home cleaned gun next day shoot again about 100 rounds came loose again. re tighten finish shooting session clean gun again, called S&W cust. serv. was told to put nail polish on threads lightly let dry then re install screw. Tighten with supplied allen wrench not t -handle . Should work. I will find out this week end. P.S. They sent me a spare screw so I can have one ready in case something happens or I want to clean the gun and re shoot. I like that SPONGY.

I love my new Victory .22lr. The first time I took it out to the range, after about 100 rounds of mini-mags, the front screw came loose.
I took the gun home, gave it a thorough cleaning, but this time added a couple of drops of Ballistol to the front screw threads.
Back to the range, fired a couple of more boxes of ammo, and guess what, the front screw stayed tight as a drum....That was an easy fix.

I am left-handed and was wondering if there would be any problem firing the Victory 22 left-handed?

I'm right-handed and have no problem firing the victory left-handed. Engaging the safety and slide lock can be a little challenging.

I am left handed as well and do not have any issues firing the pistol. Activating the safety can be annoying and I don't use the bolt release. I just pull the bolt back. Also the mag release is easily pushed with your trigger finger

First, carmakers tell you to use the oil that they used to get their official fuel mileage rating, not necessarily what is best for the engine.
Remember, they want it to last long enough for the warranty to expire and you to buy another one.
Second, I've never had any trouble stripping my Ruger MkII.
I've always called BS on that claim.
Third, I always thought the 2206 was ugly UNTIL I saw the 22 Victory and the 22A.
What in the hell are they (Smith) thinking?
Uglier than the new Star Wars blasters.
Compared to them, the 2206 is as beautiful as a 39, 41, or 52.

Front sight rod
Does anybody know the diameter of the front sight fiber optic rod? I have a few spares, but they are green, and I wanted to try red, but I can't remember what size they are. I used the red to make a fiber optic front sight for my Neos.
Update: I found out the rods are .060, no matter what S&W says. I put the red in the front and liked it so much I decided to change the rear too. That rod is .040. A little tougher to replace that rear, though. It took me two tries. I got the rods from Dawson Precision.
The reason I changed out the rear, was because for my eyes, and corrective lenses, the green is too bright, so I was either seeing 4 dots in the rear, or was getting a bleedover of the dots. I am very near-sighted, and wear progressive lenses for shooting pistols, but distance lenses for rifle peep sights.
I tried shooting with both front and rear red fiber optic today, and they were great, just about my best session ever. I have about 2500 rounds through my Victory now.

If you don't want to use the O-ring, I found that the Vibra-tite VC-3 Threadlocker works pretty well. It only takes a drop, and it is supposed to be good for 5 removals, but I found it is good for many more. I guess it is about the same as using the nail polish. You let it dry for 30 minutes.
I had a hard time finding it though. I got a small tube on Amazon.

Another 2 thumbs-up for Vibra-TITE VC-3. It has always been my opinion that the "loose screw" problem was due to people not putting enough torque on the takedown screw or not lubricating the screw. I have been involved in the discussion since the issue surfaced and have posted several times on this subject (see post #59 in this thread). Well, at around 1200 rounds, cleaning, lubricating and torqueing the takedown screw to 40 in-lbs stopped working for me. I had several range sessions where I had to tighten the screw 4 or 5 times. So, I gave Vibra-TITE VC-3 a try and no more loose screw! I love this stuff; it does what it says it does ... "Prevents loosening of fasteners from shock & vibration".

These are great pistols, especially at the current street price. I have lots of Rugers which are good but difficult to assemble after takedown.

Hi All...I received my new SW22 (Threaded Barrel) yesterday. I have read a lot about screws backing out and loose take-down screws. I am having the same problem that Iowegan had but maybe worse. My take-down screw is in so tight that it won't come out and I afraid of rounding the hex out if it now. The allen key that came with the gun bent from the force I out on it. Then I got a 6" long 1/8" allen key from my shop and it wouldn't budge. Then I put a 1/8" allen socket on a 1/4" drive socket wrench and it still won't move...then I stopped before I end up stripping the hex head. I think someone at the factory must have used red loctite with some crazy glue for good measure, or it got cross-threaded really bad at the factory. The only thing I know for sure is that it does not want to break loose. I could apply some heat but I don't know if that will affect anything badly. I'll be on the phone with S&W tomorrow morning.

I did. I only put 2 mags through it and it shot great. I typically clean my new guns and lube them according to the manual before I use them but I was excited to get this and wanted to put a few rounds through it. I like my S&W 22's a lot and I haven't gotten a new one in a while. After everything I've read I expected the screw to spin right out. I guess I've got the opposite problem.

22 empties really won't work. Most expand on being fired, so won't extract if put back in the chamber. Especially in the Victory, which has a pretty tight chamber. Then you'll have to get a rod out and push the shell out from the muzzle. Not fun.
Just get some #4 plastic anchors. They are like 12 cents each, the good ones, at TruValu or Ace.

.22 Victory
My Victory should be at my LGS tomorrow or Thurs. cannot wait to try it out. Wanted threaded bbl, LGS said there is a waiting list for that model, so I guess I will go to Volquartsen and get one. Does any one know who makes after market grips? Hogue makes them for the Ruger MK i,II,III but not for the Victory (yet?). I have them for my Colt 45 Officers and for my Taurus 941 .22mag. They really help on grip and reducing the recoil on the 45

Just bought a Victory. After reading forum I bought 2 #61 o-rings at our Ace Hardware. .49 cents each. Bought a box of 100 yellow drywall anchors at Home Depot, $3 and change. Installed one of the o-rings. Headed to our gun club range and shoot 200 rounds of Federal ammo. Just bulk stuff. Victory was flawless. Not one problem. Take down screw stayed tight, no loosing. Very accurate. I have Ruger mark I, mark III, and Browning Buckmark. Victory shoots as well as the Ruger and Browning. The drywall anchors work equally as well in the ruger and browning so I'm using them instead of empty .22 shells. I never have dry fired any of my guns without an empty shell in the chamber. Was taught that decades ago and still believe it. Thanks for the hints about o-ring and anchors.

I sold my Victory 22 after getting my Ruger MKIV. Some here didn't like the MKIV and kept their Victory. To each his own. I have not regretted selling my Victory 22.

Still waiting here in Mass for the Victory to be approved for sale...... not happening. Oh well, looks like I'll never buy one, even when it does become available ... I saw the new Ruger MkIV Hunter in the showcase a few months ago.. game over!!! What a beautiful gun, has it all over the Victory, the ease of breakdown is miles above the V. The fit, finish and looks are just top notch. The availability of aftermarket parts is enticing, but simply not necessary as this gun is just perfect out of the box.. maybe a few things ...
One more thing ... I was selling my old Mark III, but ended up picking up a new Volquartzen upper and all the Volquartzen inners.. that gun is now amazing!!! Anyone want a Model 22a ... cheap..

Wow!!! If the mothership has lost Jack on this "competition", the mothership has lost everything... well, at least .22 LR economy target pistol-wise!
p.s., I agree with you. -ttsh

Oh wow, time to de-friend Jack
Interestingly there's an article in the American Rifleman about the Ruger, and they did focus a bit on the ease of takedown.
Got my M41, two 617's and just picked up in the classifieds a M63. I may have some other Smith 22's but I sometimes forget.
I'm set, unless a 648 appears magically.

It's even worse than that. I'm not sure it even *is* the real Jack. Has someone hacked into Jack's account???

It's me!! I'm trying to be a good productive member of this great board! But don't worry, I only have 2 Mark 3s, a few Ruger carbines, 22, 44mag and a Mini14... and one Ruger 38 revolver. Now I so wanted the Victory... but as we know Mass gun laws suck and SW just don't care about us Mass gun owners. It hasn't slowed down my buying or love of SW firearms .... but they missed the boat when the Mark IV showed up.

Well picked up my Victory Thursday and took it apart after getting back home and cleaned and lubed the gun before shooting. I did notice mine had a red thread locker on the screw that made the breaking it loose difficult and required using the long side of allen wrench longer then normal. That said it went back in with same force required and second removal after first outing (only two mag's fired due to cold and wind with no failures) was the same and no damage to the red ****. Looking forward to some 40 degree weather later this week.
Accuracy was great out of box even for my old eyes, but have Leupold 2x pistol scope laying around waiting to be used again so will install that today and then give it a try sighting it in....wonder if I can bore sight it in close??? But 21F weather outside is a none starter.

Just FedEx'd my Victory back to the factory on a RMA. 3d time at the range and 3d time field strip cleaning, the entire take down lug attached to the barrel came off with the take down screw attached. Could not separate the two without damaging the threads on the lug. Take down screw was coated with red LocTite or similar substance. Was informed that S&W was closed last week of December so I'm going to have a wait before I get it back.

Had the same thing happen to mine during the 2nd take down for cleaning. To remove the lug insert I cut a small section of 1 inch square aluminum and drilled hole in center that was size of the insert O.D. Then cut the piece in half and put each half around the insert which was gripped with Vise Grip pliers.
You can then get a good grip on it and remove take down screw without damage to the threaded insert.
They should have locked that in place with Loc Tite and use a lock washer on the screw.
What I did was screw the insert back in with Red Loc Tite and found a small lock washer for the screw.Note....make sure to remove as much of the factory red locking compound you can from the screw and let the washer do the work.

Did two mag's with the scope and switched to the millet red dot due to the scope needing to be back so far as to clear the receiver. The Millet worked excellent today and w/o a proper gun rest and windy conditions I got it to one inch groups using 100 rounds of Winchester M22 Suppressor ammo and 25 rounds of CCI SV ammo for total of 150 rounds thru the Vic.
Toward the end of the 100 box I had 4 or 5 times it failed to fire and every time no FP strikes. So after stripping the Vic down including removing the barrel for cleaning and checking breech face. After cleaning everything I checked out the rear of FP and was surprised to see that the bottom half of FP was angled towards the bottom of the pin like this / a 45 degree angle from center of the pin. I can't remember ever seeing a FP that was shaped like this toward bottom of pin except in damaged flat pin from an old rifle that was also hammer fired.
So I guess I'll call S&W tomorrow and see what they say about the pin.

I'm not sure where you guys get this torquing the break down hex screw 40ft/lbs, only place I've seen this was....online. Moving forward I've put nearly 4k rounds thru my Victory and never once had a problem with the screw getting loose and all I do is hand tighten it.
Unfortunately I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for my Victory to come back from S&W. Right in the middle of a match it threw the extractor, plunger & spring. It's been gone for 2 weeks now... But when it functioned, it was beautiful...

I've found it amazing over the years how people seem to over or under torque screws and where hex head screws are used they seem to go crazy with excess torque.
As for internals of the bolt, not so sure about the design. I will look into it more this week after I talk with S&W about the 4 or 5 failure of FP to strike the shell case rim.

My Victory is running great and has not had a light strike after pulling firing pin assembly out of the bolt to clean and oil. After 500 plus rounds no light strikes.
Yesterday while trying to take my mind off my arthritis and I found about 2000 plus rounds of Remington 36gr HP Golden in one of our sheds in box with bunch of wives stuff on top from our move here 4 years ago. These were bought prior Obama's first term, and marked $9.95 for each 525 count box.
Anyway I loaded up 40 of them in magazines for my 22 and first two mags were fine, third one had a couple that seemed kind of hot, then on 4th mag I had several more that were really loud even with suppressor.
I have never shot the pistol w/o one of my suppressors mounted and this really caught my attention enough I pulled the gun apart to check things and discovered a badly damaged buffer that had looked like new before this outing. I called S&W yesterday and told the guy I talked with what happened and that I had set it aside to use in bolt rifle and revolver, he said that was good idea. Then he said he's sending me some buffers and to have fun shooting. How cool was that, that's why I'm shooting S&W for rimfire. Great customer service.

S&W customer service has never let me down, been pistol of choice (thanks to my grand fathers who chose wisely) since 1950 and have owned many, still have most of them. I consider myself a small part of the S&W team. Due to quality control failures on the part of Federal and CCI, S&W has repaired my Victory twice and never tried to blame the ammo makers although the responsibility for the error was obvious.
This round from CCI (standard velocity) actually blew the extractor out of my Victory and bulged the chamber. S&W just fixed it!!

At least there is seldom gun damage to hot shots in bolt action rifles. I put the suppressor I have for 22WMR on my Savage Mk II with 16.5" barrel, just to see how they would shoot. I had two normal and four extremely loud out of ten rounds, so now I have to decide if I want to even use them in the Savage. I might try another magazine to check the accuracy, but not sure I want to risk damaging the gun.
I would guess these are hitting 1500 plus on some the rounds, but I plan on pulling bullets and weighing powder charges when I find the time and then call Remington to see what they have to say.

I had a talk with one of Mother Smith's Customer Service reps, and she told me it was O.K. to snap my Victory once after cleaning...she didn't think that's what they were referring to by "dry firing". Wellll....O...K... I use the yellow Home Depot drywall anchors, tho. The Victory ejects them with enthusiasm! Won't feed from my magazines, tho.

Mine does, as did my S&W 2206's, so does my Ruger 10/22's and two old Ruger's a Mk I and Mk II, not to mention the lone CZ 512 Mag, and Kel-Tec PMR-30.
