Glad to hear that.
I scored a couple of 645 mags at good price on one of the big auction sites where they usually go for $$$$$$.

I noticed someone posted some 5906 magazines for sale today but the post said no sales to folks located behind enemy lines.
Hi-caps need to be "pre-bans" for me anyway. Which, I'm assuming, these were not (or maybe the seller doesn't know).

I found the post. Right here in Massachusetts too. Dang!!!
My log shows I was home on that day and at that time... but I was sound asleep recovering from a ton of travel and errands the day before (not to mention my damned, Godforsaken BiPAP machine which essentially keeps me awake all night long).
I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Just bought a good amount of replacement 4506 followers and floorplates from MidwayUSA just in case they stop offering them up. They had some left when I checked out. They'll be good for rebuilds some day if the S&W gods stops making them.

Those went fast. I saw the ad after they were sold. $20.00 each was a good price for those.

I think it's cyclic. They appear to show up in waves, then nothing for a while.
I have some 3013TSW/CS9 magazines that I'll be putting on the market sometime this spring. That's if a certain member who shall remain nameless doesn't reply to my PM.

Yes,the Medina show doesn't normally have a lot if 3rd gen mags. There were plenty of 59XX double stackers and 4006 double stackers,didn't/wouldn't waste any money on those. In 2 weeks is the summer weather(big) Berea show, should find a lot then. With summer approaching, gun shows here in northeastern Ohio are gonna start to get less frequent and my other endeavors will be increasing, automotive cruise-ins and rollercoasters.

Just stroking you Bam. You and the "Bunch" have a great time and don't worry about old TTSH and his endless search for affordable 3rd Gen magazines. I only wish I could attend too.

Oh yeah, right!
Just wanted you guys to see one of the great joys of living behind enemy lines... i.e., getting to pay insane money for seriously "used & abused" pre-ban hi-cap magazines so we don't get arrested, lose everything and go to prison for up to 10 years.

Heck... if they end up getting their way here, CA will soon make MA look good. If passed and signed into law, we're facing an outright ban on possessing any magazine over 10 rds... cancelling the grandfathering we've enjoyed and turning anything that doesn't have a 10rd replacement into essentially a manual fed single shot firearm.

But...but...no on wants to take your guns. Had a conversation with a new girl at a business lunch the other day and had to seriously restrain myself from physically attacking her. Voting for Clinton she is...and literally said while actually believing it that Clinton doesn't want to take anyone's guns.

That single stack 909 magazine will also fit the 3904/06 guns. Which makes sense since the 909 is the "Value Line" version of those guns. I've been told, but can't verify, that they will also fit the 2nd Generation single stack guns like the 439/639.
Nice finds.

Oh Lordy! Ban period magazines! The most illegal of the "illegal in Massachusetts" magazines!
Guess you won't be sending them here to me or to GaryS.

Just took inventory and have 12 1006 mags! Had several shipping envelopes with mags I didn't know I had. Appears 5 have never been used. Glad I didn't listen to wife a few years back and just kept buying them....

The best time to buy has certainly passed. I consider myself reasonably fortunate to have gotten my hands on 6 of the expensive, rare little devils. But now, it seems to have been pointless. Even if I could import, Model 1006 prices have gone right through the roof. I blew a once-in-a-lifetime chance earlier this year to buy the ultimate Model 1006 at a very fair price. It ain't gonna happen again or even anything remotely close.

that 'ultimate 1006' was/is nice. Even though I only have a regular 1006,I don't pursue trying to collect the other models. I watch them when they're put up for sale but never have been tempted to try to acquire. Along with the 1006 I have a 610 6 1/2 ". Those 2 full size 10s' are enough. The upcoming winter project is converting a recently acquired 4053 to 10mm to have a smaller size 10mm. What I have been watching for is 3rd gen 40s' as they're dropping in prices because of the 'popularity return' to 9mm.

I still cry myself to sleep at night over my monumental screw-up re: the " Ultimate 1006" as you call it. That was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I blew it. Amazing, but true. I don't think I'll ever get over it despite my good wife's attempts to speak logic to me regarding the cost (still high for me) and the risk (that it might have just been someone's "Bubba gun").
No matter how you look at it, I totally blew it. I am in the Team 3rd Gen "dunce corner" for at least the rest of this year.
In regard to the Models 4013 & 4053, I'm still hoping to get my hands on more of that family... in top condition and lacking agency markings... but not for conversion. I just happen to like those two guns.
For that reason, I am still buying-up 4013/4053 magazines when I can find them for something less than a king's ransom. The fact is that prices have come down a lot this spring as supply as increased and demand has at least temporarily waned. It certainly won't stay that way forever and I can't afford to get caught again with my pants down.

On a similar note to the current/recent thread 'had to buy a 69XX just to get a mag,I've got mags that I'm looking to buy guns for. My 4 3913 mags need a gun to be inserted into,my 40XX 11rd double-stackers need a gun,my CS40 mags need a gun. The 4013/4053 are like the 3913,single stack and small, need a couple more of those 40s'.

S over M
Looking at the top row, specifically the CS9 and 3913 mags, in the lower portion of the mag body there is an S over an M. I am guessing that the S might be for stainless steel, anyone know or want to guess what the M stands for?

Memory is very foggy at my advanced age and with senility setting in... but didn't someone here once suggest it meant they were supplied to S&W by Metalform?

Since joining this forum I've become a 3rd gen collector. Damn you guys for drawing me in! Little did I know that the mags would be so scarce. I've managed to acquire a sufficient number of 10mm mags for my 1006 & 1076. Since my CS9 also accepts mags from my 3913NL and 3914LS I'm OK there.
My current problem is the 4040PD I just bought. It's coming this week with two mags, and I'm hoping they are the original with the ball bearing in the follower, but I won't know for sure until the gun arrives.
My Shorty Forty (serial # 36!) has a couple but like the CS9, mags from my 411 and 4046 will work and I have quite a few of the 11 rounders. (one marked LE & Govt only).
So oldman10mm would you be willing to part with the 4040PD labeled mag in the above photo? Does it have the bearing equipped follower? A 3rd mag would allow me to carry the 4040PD in my shoulder holster rig and that's what I bought it for.
Any other members who have a 4040PD mag they'd be willing to part with are invited to PM me with pricing. I expect to pay a premium for an original mag with bearing in the follower.

I did however stumble across this deal a couple of weeks ago.
All mags worked good, even the ProMags.
Today is all we have, live it to the fullest!

The world of S&W 3rd Gens can be very confusing, especially when it comes to the .40's and their magazines. The photo you posted above has a CS40 magazine incorrectly labeled as 4040PD. Both of those models use their own mags and won't work with the other, since one is based on a 45 frame, and the other a 9mm frame. The only mags that work in a 4040PD are the black 4040 mags with the ball bearing indent (though it has been reported that 3913 mags will also work).
I don't own a CS40 but am fairly sure the 4013/4014 mags won't work with it either, so all of those .40's are proprietary with the mags.

The pictures were for reference only. I had seen comments that the CS40 mags work in the 4040PD. Since I don't have a 4040PD,my marking of that CS40 mag was based ONLY on comments.
I'm curious of the 'ball bearing' and 'ball bearing indent',someone care to explain.

Here's a picture of a 4040PD magazine, you can see the spring-loaded ball bearing at the top on the follower. It is supposed to ensure that the slide stop engages on an empty mag by pushing the follower to the left (in reality, this doesn't always happen).

Thank you for the pic of the 4040PD magazine.
I deleted the pic in my post#170 in this thread and replaced it with corrected pic. Also deleted the original incorrect pic from my 'photobucket'.
Quoted pics might or might not contain the original 'erroneous' pic.

I modded some other S&W 45xx mags to fit my Star M45
|
What comes around goes around. I was at a militaria shop picking up my 4566 and found a 645 mag in the box of spares. Along side of it was a 20 round extended 1911 mag.
Close examination and some research shows its just a matter of cutting the mag detent in a new place. It's been done.
It also goes to the market right now. 1911's are selling pretty well and mags are too. If they are that similar the mag tubes are simply being diverted to a growing market.
Just divert some back. A quality aftermarket .45 mag is a good mag. It's just where the mag release is located, and in this case, they are separated by a wide margin.
It is, according to many accounts, exactly how prototype mags are fashioned at the factory. How the cartridge stacks in a column doesn't vary too much, add a hole for the mag release and tweak the feed lip angles, done. Working mag.
