So what is a clean,low-miles,4506-1 actually worth?
And PLEASE, spare me the useless and predictable, "it's worth what someone will pay for it" . (if some retarded billionaire somewhere will pay a quarter of a million dollars for one, it doesn't mean they're all worth 250K.)
And of course, I understand that the market fluctuates, and is different in different parts of the country.
I'm just wondering what the average, real-world, non-S&W-forum-fanboy value actually is.
I've seen several of these go on GB for a total of $700+, factoring in shipping and transfer, but I'm also having guys cite much lower prices.

GB is usually a useless and predictable gauge on pricing...you know..... what people are actually willing to pay for a certain firearm ....facts are stubborn

It doesn't mean that it's worth it but I KNOW my LGSs would be asking $650 for a really nice one. And maybe you could get $50 knocked off the hang tag price. But all that is moot because I never see them anyway. Once in awhile I'll see a not-so-nice 4506, but never a 4516 or 4566. Maybe GB is not so far off after all.
And, FWIW, I have $528 in my 4516-2 bought NEW in 1996. OMG that's 20 years ago!
Oops sorry, the question was regarding a 4506 not a 4516. My bad! However, I'll let stand with what I said above as I believe it is pretty accurate for my area.

It is widely known that GB is home to numerous idiots asking absurd prices, that are never realized, and in that respect, it is not a useful guage of realistic firearm values.
But, I was referencing actual sales, which ARE a valid, useful guage of firearm values.

Ok-is this price just for the gun or does it have the cleaning kit, original box and paperwork set also?

Not a 4506, but I recently paid $400 for a real clean 645 with 3 mags, but no box. Private sale, & he was asking $500. At $400, mine was the highest offer, & he accepted it. South Florida. Last month I got a nice, but not mint 4516 no dash with box, & 3 mags for $450. GARY

I did read and my comprehension is just fine. Let me quote you "I've seen several of these go on GB for a total of $700+"........would not a reasonable assumption be that "go on GB" mean completed sales?... ....GB has a tool to search completed sales

I bought a really clean one about eighteen months ago.
Four hundred dollars out the door with one magazine and no box.

I sold this close to new 4506-1 R3 well over a year ago for $800 shipped.
I also sold a NIB 4516-1 for $800 also about a year back on Gunsamerica.
Item # 925329045
You asked.

For me, it would depend on how much the 4506-1 begged me. It might sound crazy but ive paid way to much for some of my smith's, they just would'nt let me leave. So you could get a really good deal if you can find one that does'nt talk.

I'll give you the all depends line.
I just picked up a 645 that had its first 50 rounds fired through it the week before for $500. I would have paid a lot more because of the condition.
I paid $435 for a nib 3906 late last year and that was a great bargain.
Then I see something I want in great shape on GB that's priced a bit high but I hit the BIN button because everything I've found was in sorry shape and no way am I going to lose out on something in the shape I want that I've been searching for for a long time.
So yeah, how bad do you want it and how much value do you place on it.

I paid $450 for just the gun in very good condition and a magazine. That was also a few years back (2006). So $600-$700 might be what to expect for a very good to excellent condition gun. I do not see them very often at gun shows. I heard a rumor that Bachman Pawn in Dallas had some.

Why ask this condescending and blatantly obnoxious question to the very forum that you specifically point out by name in your smarmy, know-it-all post?
Must be tough to shoot a tight group with that chip on your shoulder.

Yeah, ok, fair point . I was in a partucularly grumpy mood last night. Apologies to all for any insult or attitude.
And I didn't mean that comment about "S&W-forum fanboy value" as an insult (believe it or not), it was more of a reference to the fact that this sub-forum is naturally populated by folks that have a very high degree of appreciation for S&W semi-autos, and would very predictably have an enhanced opinion and valuation of them.
Anyway, though deals can sometimes be found, it sounds like $700 wouldn't be an unrealistic price/trade-value on Armslist for a nearly pristine,low-miles, 4506-1, w/ rounded trigger guard, 3 mags, and extra recoil and trigger play spring (but no other factory-original extras)?

I recently paid $750 for a 1006 with 2 mags. I would expect that a nice 4506 goes for around that.

Yes, locally $600 to $750 would be what I would expect to pay for a clean 4506-1 as you describe MK IV.
I would consider anything below $600 as a very good deal on a low miles 4506-1 with box, docs and two or three mags. Good luck with your search. I see a couple of clean examples on the auction boards this AM. One has a fairly low "buy it now". Regards 18DAI

Haha, okay, good peace offering. I think that we all attach a lot of emotion to things when we sit down and chat about the stuff we love. There are also very strong emotions that get stirred when we participate or even simply just WATCH some of the things that happen on Gunbroker.
I can say confidently that I have spent an awful lot of time participating on Gunbroker and we could all have a fantastic discussion about the place and I believe that discussion would HELP many folks to get at least a tiny bit less perturbed about Gunbroker, haha (or maybe not.)
A clean 4506-1 is a sought-after pistol these days -- specifically to S&W type people. Generally speaking... no. And exactly that is why it's just not so easy to quickly nail down a price/value.
To younger, newer, current generation market-- a 4506-1 is a bloated, heavy, out of production TANK with a trigger system that belongs in a museum and a trigger break that won't approach a 1911.
To us kinda folks who know and love 1-2-3 Gens... a clean 4506-1 simply -IS- close to the pinnacle of the basic large frame, big bore 3rd Gens, and THAT is how some of them on Gunbroker rocket up in price.
In some gun stores, that pistol will collect dust at $500 until a guy in his 40's or older sees it & rips his pocket off trying to get to his wallet.

This pretty much sums it up IMHO!!
If the dust is thick enough they may take $400........LOL cus they probably only have $250-300 in it!!!!

Having had a 4506, I'd take the 1006 since I have plenty of 45 auto's, but that's only me.

I've got a XD45 (.45cal) and a Glock 20 (10mm and a .40cal barrel) but I really, really liked the S&W 10mm. If I find a nice 4506 I'm sure I'll own one of those, too.
