10-8 rear sight on a 3rd gen pistol?
I have one of the 10-8 rear sights for the E-series 1911 and noticed that it will also fit 3rd generation S&W autos. That got me thinking about putting it on my 3914 -- which is my carry gun -- versus putting it on my E-series 1911, which tends to only see range use.
I'm a fan of the sights, having used them on M&P's and Glocks, and really like the idea of having them on the 3914. Over the years, I've seen a few references and photos in this forum of Trijicon sights on model 3913's and 3914's, as well as on other 3rd gen autos, but haven't seen any of the 10-8 sights... has anyone here tried the combination, particularly on the compact pistols (e.g., 3913/3914, 6906/6904, 4516/4513, etc.)? If so, how do you like it?

Fusion sights
I used Fusion's version of the straight eight sights on my 4040pd. Took some fitting but work well.

Is the slide cutout the same, or does something have to be machined?
This could be good.

YMMV...
The materials that came with it from 10-8 indicate that the sight should fit 3rd-generation pistols, as well -- with the standard caveats that there's a great deal of variance among s&w sight dovetails and so fitting might be required & they can't guarantee that it will work, etc.
Still, I really like the idea, since I like the sight and I love the 3914, and think they'd make a good pairing.

10-8 rear installed
The 10-8 rear made for the E-series is too short for any of the 3rd gen 45/10s or the single stack 40s for that matter. That sight ought to be close to the correct height for any of the 9mm size guns ie. 3913 et al.
The original post got me thinking though...
A bit of rummaging in the parts bin turned up a 10-8 rear for a 1911 with a .375 tall blade.
A bit of adjusting to the angles was in order to fit the 3rd gen slide cut.
Not something to be undertaken lightly and is not easily undone but I had to carve the raised lip off the rear of my slide for it to fit.
Turned out pretty nice. Same height as the original Novak so POI should remain unchanged.
Thanks to the OP for planting the seed
Cheers
Bill

Holy Smokes!!
Wow -- that is amazing! While I'm a little disappointed that this project has clearly moved beyond my DIY skills, I'm thrilled to see it work... thank you for posting those pictures!

I've played with this idea myself for white a while. As I suspected the standard Novak cut 1911 rear sight won't fit without machine work to the slide, sight or both.

The S&W used the Novak sights, but they fit a S&W dovetail. It's different. But, the M&P dovetail I believe is the same. I know the front sights are interchangeable and suspect the rears are as well.
