10mm magazines; 6906 magazines
I have a 1076 that I really love. I got it with 5 or 6 magazines, so I'm not really looking for more. But I happened to see that some people are asking close to, or even over, $100 for them. WTH? Is that an outlier or the current market?
On a similar note, I have on the way a 6906 (ex-police gun). It only came with one magazine. It seems the stainless 12-round compact mags are pretty tough to find. The blued ones are a bit easier, but still not exactly falling out of the sky. Were/are the stainless guns that use this mag size just not that common?

Factory mags for guns that are no longer in production and no longer supported by the factory, hard to find and expensive.
Go figure..

Indeed, the market for S&W 10mm magazines is very pricey. It is not at all unusual to see used ones going for $80 and up... and new, unused ones sometimes going for $100 or more. Look for the thread here which talks about putting them together from component parts, when available, for less money.
I have not had any big problems procuring used 6900-series magazines (all pre-bans in my situation). Maybe just a local thing. I only own two 6900-series pistols so I haven't felt any pressing need to buy a lot of them lately. Things may have changed while I wasn't looking.

I was paying around $25 to $30 for 10mm mags on ebay when I saw them come up, and passed on ones with what I felt had high shipping charges. Then almost overnight, around March of last year, the bidding on them went nuts. It got so bad that by late summer they were getting bid up to over $100 for a used magazine. It seems to have settled down somewhat, with $80 for a used mag being the current price.
One popped up a couple months ago on another forum and the guy wanted $30 for it. Of course my .mil internet at work decided that that was the most appropriate time to go into snail mode, and I had a lot of difficulty getting a post up to buy it. In the end I got it for $30 plus $5 shipping.
Check ebay, a lot. Search for terms like "wesson 10mm" and "S&W 1006" and every iteration you can think of. Sort by 'newly listed' for best results; you are only interested in what has come on recently. A few months ago one popped up on ebay with buy-it-now for $40 free shipping and literally while I was looking at the pictures it sold.
Numerich has parts, but I bought the floor plate retainer part and it doesn't fit; I'm guessing it is a .45 one that was either mismarked or they know we'll buy anything that says 10mm on it, so word of caution. It won't be a big deal, I'll dress it with a file and make it fit.
Gun shows and old (as in long established) gun stores that have had a lot of used guns passing through are another good place to look. It's a semi-shady practice for gun sellers to pull the extra mags out of the box when they get a used gun in, then sell them separately (some dealers do this with new guns as well but that another topic altogether). So what happens is they end up with a box of used mags and after a while they'll let them go for reasonable prices (unless they've caught wind of the outrageous panic prices they're selling for currently).
Good luck- I've managed to collect about 12 good used mags, one used mag that needs the retainer, and three new ones still in the blister pack. The most I've paid so far is $40 (maybe one for $45) for a used mag. The price you'll tolerate is a personal thing so I can't suggest you walk if the price is above $XX.

10mm: I guess I'll have to keep my eyes open and buy them when I see them so I'll have a lifetime supply.
6900: I only have the one pistol. Today at a gunshow I scored the following: a Marlin-marked 12-round blue for $25; a 15-round blue unmarked (probably aftermarket) with a "+2 grip" spacer installed for $10; a real-deal S&W stainless 12-round mag for $15. (I forgot to check the same guy for 10mm). I don't expect the 15-rounder to work real well, but maybe I'll be surprised. If not, I'll put the spacer on a Mec-Gar.

I've got a few extra 10mm S&W mags if anyone really needs a couple. They aren't cheap. Send message if interested. Don't post any inquiry on the public board. People tend to give nasty comments if you aren't practically giving away hard-to-find parts. That's just my policy.

How many 10mm Mags are enough?
One of the interesting things driving up prices on S&W 10mm magazines is the fact that the owners of these highly-prized pistols seem to feel that they need a truckload of magazines or else!
Don't get me wrong. All of us want a good, healthy supply of magazines for our beloved 3rd Gens. Discontinued is forever... or at least it is in most cases. And our 3rd Gens don't work nearly as well without magazines.
But the desire for magazines seems to go to extremes with the 10mm owners. It's true that you can never have enough ammo or magazines, but as a practical matter all of us have got to stop somewhere.
I just think the 10mm folks want to stop a lot farther down that magazine road than the rest of us do with our 9mm's and .40's and .45's.

I have a 1006 and a 1076. Between them, I think I have 6 magazines. If I saw one for $30, I might buy it. Otherwise, I have enough to do me.

Sounds reasonable to me.
I've been on a "pre-election" campaign this spring to get up to either 3 (minimum) or 4 (preferably) total magazines per 3rd Gen owned or planned to be owned.
I must be darn close because I am pretty much out of money.

I actually bought 3 new magazines for my 1006 from MidwayUSA. That was about 3 years ago tho, and they are no longer available.
They were $29 a piece. Bought some new followers from them too.
I found replacement springs at gunsprings.com and bought a few spares. Now with the 5 mags I have and spare followers and springs, I should be good for a long time.
