Default Gun Broker Auction

Just "watched" an auction of a "NIB" Model 52-2. It looked to be in excellent condition and, since I have one, I wondered what it would go for. Ended up hitting a price of $1950. These prices, at least to me, are insane. Makes me tempted to sell mine but I think I'll just pass it on to my son.

I've already started doing that with my four boys. Might as well be realistic about it. After all, I'm 81 now (or am I 83?............can't remember).

I'm coming up on 71. My shooting is not what it was when I was an active bullseye shooter. When you go so far downhill in your abilities it's hard to accept the fact that your shooting is so bad. I still do enjoy shooting the Model 52 though. The trigger and accuracy of that gun is outstanding. I just hope when I pass my guns along to my son he'll appreciate them as much as I do.

You don't know if you're 81 or 83? I think I missed Friday last week. The news came on and said it was Saturday. I thought they were wrong but I guess it's oldtimers disease setting in.

I sold my 52 better than 10 years ago, (for triple what I paid for it), and don't miss it much. It was superbly accurate, but if I was just a little off I wouldn't throw a 9, it would be a 7. My 1911's are more forgiving.

About two weeks ago a 52-2 went for $2300 on GB!
'The right place at the right time' - I guess.

Default 52-2

There is no rhyme or reason for these prices, especially seeing how it was in the A400000 range. At least the A105000 up to A300000 had a much nicer finish. At the same time this was listed there was another 52-2 same serial # range, 3 spare steel follower mags, Herrit adjustable shelf grips, Aimpoint aluminum grip scope mount, 1 spare rear sight, ran 2 weeks at $1450.00 opening bid, after you sell off the extra's you had the pistol for $850.00.
It makes no sense but some people enjoy paying out there backside.
Saw a 41 EFS guy said he was the original owner, and that these had sold for $2300., so someone bought this for $1995.00, never showed the box end label, no way of knowing it was a true EFS Model 41. Same time I purchased a LNIB for $950. nobody bid. I Would rather pay too much for a 52-2, at least if you were having to pay for there quality today, its what you would be spending on them.
Also if you want to see what this seller buy's check out his feedback's and look at past auctions he has purchased. My jaw dropped.

If there was one of those funny faces for "been there, done that" I would post a string of them. I've said it before, if you haven't paid too much for a gun then you aren't buying enough. I'm retired and done well enough in life that if I see something I want (like a 52-2) I'm not that concerned with the price. Sorry kiddos, if I want it I'm gonna out bid you.

^that, exactly, and OTHER factors that you folks seemingly will not want to believe all are at work to make *some* auctions go to high bids. Your head might explode if you don't simply accept that these auction results are DATA POINTS in the market, these results are not THE market.

There are reasons behind some auction results that seem eye-popping. If you really believe that what you see is absolutely what you get, then yes... put yours up for sale on Gunbroker now.

When it ends, you will find that either you made a huge pile of cash... or that you jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Much the same I also am .."old" but I don't have any sons to pass my stuff along to, got a couple of grandsons and only one cares about shooting or my guns.
I can't think of what will happen to my stuff when I am gone.

Ouch!!! So you're the guy I've been bidding against! That explains a lot.

I'm retired too but I'm dirt stinkin' poor and every last penny counts.

No wonder I haven't been winning any auctions lately.

Sounds like I should have sprung the $750+Tx it would have taken to buy the one that went on consignment at my most local & favored shop. But I'm not a reloader anymore and I don't intend to be one ever again.

That said, it sounds like I should have bought it for the investment potential alone.

OK....First of all its only "stuff" I dont have kids either, I have a nephew
that is a GREAT gun guy, if he likes my 41 and 52...fine if not he can sell
them. I will be in an ash can.I made a rule many years ago.....never ever
get emotionally attached to any OBJECT. I had a perfect '61 Corvette.
When I went into the service, I sold it to a guy that beat the **** out of it....my buddy wrote me as to what was happening....I said the guy could
burn it. Its HIS car now!. Love and care for people, they are the only
ones that can cry with you.Enjoy your stuff while you are here, cause when your gone.....its over. As to pricing...who would believe what we are paying for homes, cars...groceries! Used guns are no exception...
if you want something and will enjoy it...BUY IT!! You are going to die.

I know that I am here once and don't plan on taking anything with me so when I want a new to me toy I just go out and buy it. Everything I have is insured so the Bank or somebody else is going to end up paying for my toys anyways when I need to do the Dirt Nap. I might as well have the best of them NOW and enjoy myself. My one Grandson will get all my guns as I already know he loves them.

There is a Rhyme and Reason to these prices.

If you live someplace where YOU CANNOT buy a lot of guns due to laws or you travel to and visit and understand the reality that your fellow citizens can choose to vote your rights away.

AND that the Obama administration is setting into place the research dollars and funding for smart guns to become the standard guns which will be used by future local, state and federal LEOs to force industry and make consumers WANT to buy them, finally making their adoption unavoidable because we won't have the excuse the they are not reliable enough for police.

AND the fact that the feds want a kill switch on guns, even their own...

Makes you realize you SHOULD buy anything you can afford and want.

They will never make guns like these again.

I would like to buy more guns, but have kids to put through college and I live in a state where the long guns I used to own and like are banned and now sold...

Wasn't me. I have one 52 and am more likely to sell it than buy another. Now a 952 is a different matter, just bought my sixth. Love 'em.

If your plan is to pass them on, make sure your family has some way of knowing what your guns are worth. When my grandfather passed away, my mom, knowing nothing about guns, took his never-been-fired Beretta to the LGS and accepted about half what it was worth.

There's a classic signature line you'll see from time to time:
"My greatest fear is that I'll die and my wife will sell my toys for what I told her I paid for them."

The 'kiddos' have nothing to worry about. In the coming years when there are no baby boomers left, they'll be able to get this stuff dirt cheap. 57 Chevy's that bring $120K today will sell for a quarter of that and sit on the market for eons before someone comes along to buy it. Plus widows will sell gun collections for pennies on the dollar, unaware of their worth. Since I've outlived my wife, it will be my kids doing that. Everything comes to he who waits.

I've been waiting!!! I keep hearing about all those great deals we're going to get as the baby boomers die off. Well, where the heck are they?

Lord knows I'll be dead soon enough myself... but haven't at least some of the baby boomer gun collectors kicked the bucket by now?

Where the heck are my great deals???

I can't think of what will happen to my stuff when I am gone.
In that case, leave 'em all to him in the will.

Cannot stress enough how big a clusterflop occurs when folks
aren't VERY SPECIFIC in wills...basically it means NOTHING
will go where you wanted it to...
and even the basic stuff gets completely screwed up...

The other option, is to pass most of 'em along while you are alive.
There are few better feelings than when Grandpa gives you something.
Especially when it's a "Take you aside & have a conversation" delivery
Those moment are what we really remember!!
