of the 13 varieties I have, only 7 are for myself, the other 6 are for others. I charge $5 over what I paid and if for to be shipped, plus USPS postage. Never had a complaint about the +$5.
What I acquire for others are;
-4013TSW 9rd double stack
-4006 11rd double stack
-4506 8rd
-M945PC 7rd
-457/4516/4513TSW 7rd
-4513TSW 6rd.
the most difficult mag is the 356TSW.

I had owned the semi-auto version before then, in fact had owned 2 H&K-91's and a CETME, and later a PTR (U.S.-made clone) that used G-3 mags, but had nothing at the time and didn't think I'd own another. Great rifles but I like the M-14 style and FN-FAL types better.
TAPCO had a bazillion of them and was blowing them out.
I paid 50 cents apiece with shipping.
Later, during the AWB and various elections, I sold them for $3.00-$5.00 each, plus postage. I got tired of going to the post office.

I also bought 100 of those G3 magazines, I think I paid $.97 each for them delivered
I put mine to use in my G3k
If you bought them pre-AWB, that was over 22 years ago......time flies

I've done it, unintentionally, a couple of times. It's always worked out to my advantage.
1st time, "unknown" doublestack 9mm magazine for $14.
I owned a CZ 75, Beretta 92SF and Hi Power at the time, not sure if I had my S&W 915 yet or not. I rolled the dice, figuring I had a solid chance it would fit one of my pistols. It didn't.
I'm always on the lookout for different types of metal DA/SA duty pistols at good prices; after a little research I figured out the magazine was for a Star Model 28/30/31. I later was able to land a Star 30MI in great shape for a good price, and the magazine was indeed the correct one.
2nd time, searching for additional mags for my S&W 39-2. Someone on ebay listed a pair of 39xx series mags for a good price, a bit confusing on the description. Turned out they were for a 3914, didn't fit my pistol.
Did a straight trade with a member of this board for the mags I needed.

I did it with 4006 mags a few years ago: a site I will not name due to their cowardly reaction to Sandy Hook had a deal where they were selling 4006 trade-in mags for $5.99 so I grabbed 5. Refurbished with all new springs and followers, too, and 4 years later I finally found my perfect 4006.

Haha, this is a neat tale either way, but NOW that you own a Star 30MI, do you now also realize what a pain in the butt it is to find a magazine for it, and an affordable one at that?
This makes your tale even better!
I know there is another guy who posts here that is a big fan of the double stack DA Star like the Model 28/30/31 and he says the 5906 magazine works but I believe that is only if the pistol is altered and the magazine safety is removed. I have not removed mine (yet?) but the pistol is pretty cool and I like it.

I have bought a few magazines for handguns .22LR rifles that I dont own yet but what I am really bad about is buying dies and reloading components for handguns and rifles that I hope to have one day. I currently load for 28 different cartridges and have dies for at least 10 that I don't yet have firearms for. Some that I really want, I have two sets of dies for (7-30 Waters and .22-250) and even some factory ammo.

In addition to magazines, I routinely buy ammo for guns that I do not have yet.;-). Not a problem.

Ha!!! Now, that's something I never thought of doing before. Perhaps with the challenges we face now and the likelihood of far greater challenges after November, it's something I should seriously consider.
I guess the question is: What calibers might I someday need for which I don't have any matching guns right now.
I recently bought some .357 Sig ammo after acquiring a .357 Sig barrel for my M&P40 FS... so that's good for now. I also stocked up recently on "non-Plus P" .38 Special so I could use that in my vintage Model 10-5.
I don't own any .32 ACP ammo... nor do I own a .32 ACP pistol. I suppose it's a long shot possibility that I could own a Seecamp .32 someday (the .380 version is not for sale in MA). But with very few "good years" left, that's kind of doubtful.
10mm is one obvious choice, but the ammo is crazy expensive here in MA. Walmart doesn't even carry it. From what little research I've done, it appears like you've got to buy it on-line to get it at least semi-economically... but we can't import here in MA.
I own just one shotgun right now and it is .410 gauge. I guess one could make a pretty good argument that I should own some 12 gauge shotgun shells... just in case the stuff hits the fan really hard someday!
A friend recently got me fairly interested in the Ruger SP101 .327 Magnum revolver. If it ever goes on sale cheap enough, I could see myself going for one of them... so there's a fairly decent candidate!
Only other one I can think of is FN's 5.7×28mm cartridge for their PS90 bullpup. It makes no sense for me here in MA with our silly magazine size restriction, but the gun itself has always intrigued me and the price has come down a lot from a few years ago. I'm certainly not going to run out and buy one tomorrow... but I wouldn't rule it out entirely either.

Ammo for guns I don't have,Yes. But my approach to that is different as I reload. 380ACP,357Sig,45LC,454Casull,460S&W,500S&W-have all components necessary, brass & bullets. Don't shoot 308Win & 30-06 anymore but have all the components/dies.

Yeah, having a spare magazine definitely came into play with my decision to get the 30MI.
My personal favorite pistol has long been the CZ 75, and after reading of a similar design on Stephen Camp's website, I was interested (he did a writeup on the Model 28). When I got a surplus B Super, I was very impressed with it overall, and that sold me on the brand.
After figuring out that I had a magazine for it (like you said, they are scarce and pricey), I bumped the pistol up to the top of the list for next purchase at the time.

I love mine too, it's a great example of just a big, well-crafted pistol.
I've heard the 59xx magazine compatability tale too, but haven't acted on it.

Well, those magazines I bought for guns I didn't own are now spare mags for the 3913, 3914, and 4013!
Not sure if it was the fact I had the mags already, but it became harder and harder to wait for the "right" ones to come along. Time to look for some cs40 mags now!

I wonder if any of the S&W single stack mags would work with the Star Firestar pistols?
39 series in M43. Firestar 9mm?
4013? series in M40 Firestar .40?
4513 series in M45 Firestar?

The CS45/Star model 45 is a direct exchange
except you have to mill the mag catch holes for the other.
All 45xx single stacks work, via the mag catch holes as well,
so you can also use the big stick mags as well.
Didn't get the chance to check the M43/39xx flip,
as I recently sold my M43 before getting a 39xx/CS9.
Special Note, the M43 & M40 mags DO interchange,
and will hold & fire perfectly either 9mm or .40,
which I believe is the ONLY time this has ever been done correctly.
Bloody amazing more MFR's didn't catch on to that trick,
using mags that accept either 9mm or .40-S&W
is a stroke of genius!!!
And I did test that extensively, so I know it to be true.
And there's still buttloads of NOS 43/40 mags available...
as they're still in production by the original MFR, MecGar,
and tons of the 9mm & 40 mags on just about every auction site
and FleaBay...most at very reasonable prices. Shop Smart.
The M43 went to fund a M243, which, IIRC, switches with 69xx mags...
again by adding a mag catch hole.
The CS40 uses mags made specifically for it,
as it shares the CS45 frame. So no love there.
The M28/M30 uses S&W 5906/59xx mags
and the M31 (.40S&W) uses 40xx mags...
but as with the 45's, you must add a mag catch hole,
AND...either add a shelf for the mag safety to engage,
or disable the mag safety, which is detailed on another site.
Hope that helps I'm a storehouse of useless Star Pistol Info,
and will be learning more as I collect more Stars
Have owned the M30P & M43;
Currently own:
M45 in .45acp
M205 in 9mm
M205 in .40-S&W
M243 in 9mm
Need: Megastar in .45acp & 10mm
M243 in .40-S&W or conversion for my 9mm
M40 in .40-S&W
and if I can ever find them,
the M105 (rare)
and M316 (rare) / ASTAR MAX 8800 (moderate production run).

I just found a secret stash of S&W 3rd gen mags for a 4006, 4043, 4046, 4026, 4003, 411, and 410. I own neither of these guns at the present time, but must have sold off at least 2-3 reluctantly over the past few years.
Well, needless to say, I have to be on the hunt again, as I think I bought enough magazines to last me three lifetimes.....

His stash seems to be all 40S&W double stackers, mine a variety of 9 S&D,40 S&D,10s',45s'. So he's the 'King of 3rd gen 40S&W double stackers. I only have 11 40 DS among the 76 total.

Not competing intentionally, just feeding the addiction. As far as how many are in that box, look closer, there are two layers.

I have 10 factory 8 rd mags for S&W single stack 39-2;half have metal followers while the rest have black plastic.
When it comes to the double stack 59 series I have about 6 different variations of factory mags in 14rd and 15rd capacities.Only one in my collection has a both a metal follower and metal base marked as 9mm and S&W on the base.
The newest is a 15rd mag in SS with an orange follower,S&W logo on the side and Smith and Wesson in a cutout on the plastic base.
I wonder how many variations of the S&W 14/15 rd mags there actually are for the 59 series?

What about 10mm???
Methinks you are selling off too many of your 3rd Gen magazine finds from the shows. I figure you should have at least double that list in stock right now with the effort you put in!

10mms' aren't listed because my stock is 'keeper' stock until I get more.
Most of the list is stock to sell. I probably would have had double that had I not sold any,but if I wasn't selling,I wouldn't be accumulating. I'd only have those for MY pistols. When I see a 'want to buy' here and on the other forums,I respond thru a PM. Most of the 'common ones' are available thru Midway,Brownells,CTD,and others.
The 'stock' is constantly changing due to shipping out or show acquisitions.

I bought four Mec-Gar branded 59 series magazines (I own a 5903) for $23 a piece, and six S&W branded 6906 magazines (made by Mec-Gar for S&W) for $22 a piece. I have been yearning for a 6906 since early this year, and always liked the way it fit my hand and the smooth DA/SA trigger. I also scored three brand new factory Browning Hi-Power magazines in the box cheap (also made by Mec-Gar) that will be my birthday present next year. The 6906 will be my Christmas present

Hey BigShrek,
Do know of any non-star mags that can be modified/used in the PD? I bought a really nice one many months ago but it only had one mag.
thanks, fuzzy

When I see a 'want to buy' here and on the other forums,I respond thru a PM. Most of the 'common ones' are available thru Midway,Brownells,CTD,and others.
The 'stock' is constantly changing due to shipping out or show acquisitions.

Are any of those 5900-series 15-round magazines "pre-bans"? You can tell by no S&W logo present and only one mag release cut (not two)... and no LEO/export-only warning, of course. Also helps if they have the wide/shallow appearing lower indents apparently indicating earlier production.
Those remain the only 3rd Gen magazines that I am short on due to having bought too many 5900/900-series pistols with just one gosh-darned magazine.

Back on the original topic of "mags for guns I don't own"-
I'm doing that now; I own a CZ99 that has a scarcity of available mags, but is a fine and robust cheap hi-cap pistol. It can take Beretta-shaped magazines, but you have to make a cutout in the front of the mag to lock it in (just needs a new notch).
I'm finding that the Taurus 92 mags are very cheap, and have the correct dimensions, so I bought a couple recently.
I don't plan on buying a Taurus, I plan on dong some Dremel work instead.
As an aside, someone on Gunbroker listed 10 CZ99 mags for sale, open bid was at $60, Buy Now was $120.
I bid up to $75 and was considering buying them outright... but I hesitated for 2 minutes to decide whether I really wanted to spend that much, for that many mags, for a gun that wasn't "my favorite".
I decided that yes, I would... but in those 2 minutes someone else beat me to the punch.
added...
and darn it, I put the hole too high on these Taurus mags... it sets too low, and it catches on the upper lip of the notch. I don't suppose JB Weld or anything would work to add a millimeter, would it?

Not that I know of, but they still seem to be plentiful...
Star PD 6rd Gun Magazine
STAR PD, .45ACP, 6 RD or 10 RD: - Triple K

Colt 1911 magazines are not the same size as P and PD magazines. Some people have made them work, but they will wobble around and may not function correctly.

This makes me think that certain other copies, like the
LLAMA .45 might work...as they were slightly fatter.
So if you can find a buddy with a Llama or two...
or other South American copies of the 1911,
try them out & report back

That's one of those things that it's better to WELD & redrill...
JB needs a certain amount of area to hang on to...
so tends to cause issues on the inside and outside of a mag.
Take it to a pro if ya have to...it'll be worth it.

Big Shrek,
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately I have tried the Triple K's and they would not even fit properly in the gun.
all the best, fuzzy

Here in Australia, we are NOT allowed to buy magazines for any firearm that we are not licensed to have.................
