Finally!! S&W Model 52-2
So damn excited that after 45 years I was able to pick up a Model 52-2 in like new condition. Back in 71 I could not justify the price of the piece but wanted it badly. Today i still could not justify the price but purchased it anyway haha. Seriously though I had a couple of Marine Corp buddies pass recently and that's when I said the heck with it.... All in all still cheaper than the M14 I picked up a couple months ago!! Wife said to me thought you were going to start giving away your weapons to the kids and I said sure but not ALL OF THEM!!

Hello Mr. Miller, congrats. It only took 47 years. Not bad. You did not say if you are going to shoot it or not? Please go shoot it. What a treat.
My Dad had one back in the 60s we shot every Sunday up at the farm by the creek. It is still siting in the box in his library. He died 2 years ago at 95. Best

WE recently had a smith and Wesson day at our club and even the rep stated just how hard it is to find a decent 52-2. He does continous shows and never see's them himself anywhere he goes. Good for you to snag one finally.

I shoot mine. Not as regularly as I should but, whenever I bring it out to the range it draws a crowd.
Shoots great too!

I looked for one for about 10 years , then at the S&WCA Symposium in Baton Rouge I saw this.......
Obviously it made the 1.5 hour trip west back home with me.

I'm very happy for you! I waited a while to get my first one and my reasons definitely seemed "wise" at the time. Upon reflection, I can't say I have regrets... but I can certainly say that I never (ever ever ever) should have waited so long to get one.
I've been shooting & absolutely loving handguns for nearly 30yrs but my first Model 52 experience came just last November.
You need hints, tips, suggestions or troubleshooting? Or if you just wanna hear from other folks that are deeply in love with the Model 52?
Right here! Here is the place.
Please report back after you've shot it!

Terrific find on your part. You won't find a more accurate pistol out there then the S&W Model 52. One of the finest pistols ever made (along with the Model 41) and an absolute joy to shoot.

The Model 41 is one of my favorites, definitely more accurate then I can shoot it with my eyes!! Hopefully the same will be said for the 52 when I finally get a chance to take her out!!

Here's the 52-2 I picked up earlier this year. First one I had ever seen out for sale. . .didn't even know what it was when I saw it. Roy said it shipped in 1968 making it the first -2 ever shipped. I got it pretty cheap. Shot it a few times and put it up. It does shoot good.

You can see the SN on mine and get some idea of how close it is. Roy said mine shipped in June of 1968. The SN's are shared with the M39 and the M59 and probably some others. The & sign on mine and some other stuff is some indication of how early it is. The -2 is not really recorded in the books as selling/shipping until around 1972. I guess that makes any gun shipped before 1970 an early one and one of the first. I paid $800 for mine so I sort of stole it.

model 52, 52-1, 52-2 Builder
Recently met Eddie Mitchell 91 year old Navy WWII veteran who , later, was a 30 year S&W auto pistol fitter and supervisor. He built many 52's. If yours has the number "2" at the bottom front of the magazine well, a true hero and patriot built it!

That's interesting about the numbering system stamped on the magazine well. I checked my 52 collection. They are stamped with the numbers 1, 4 and 7.

I found one earlier this year in a gun store with the original box and an extra mag. Thought I would buy it and then shoot it some.
