Default New Purchase - NIB 539 - deal?

Hey all, I just bought a never fired 539 in the box with all accessories; two mags, paperwork, cleaning kit, etc. It came from an estate of a collector. I'll post pictures soon. Never had one of these before, and this one is pristine. Was it worth $500?

Only because I live in the REAL world and not simply the one driven by rhetoric and emotion...

I would say your best play is to not fire a single round through it, put it on Gunbroker and watch it sell for TOO MUCH money.

539's and other 2nd S&W's are fantastic pistols (I own four 2nd Gens myself) but in my opinion... a mint, never fired and NIB 539 simply isn't worth near as much as a shooter as what some collector is likely to pay for it in that condition.

I think it'd be possible to buy two fantastic shooters AND have some money left over for ammo with the money that this 539 would sell at.

Oh---
To the question... YEAH, you got a good deal at $500.

Yes, you did good, really, really good! Congratulations. A NIB 539 is something I've NEVER seen. Heck, I don't even see good used ones very often. Looking forward to your pictures.

Get fitted for a wooden leg, an eye patch and a parrot, Matey. Hoist the skull and crossbones. You did alright.

I found this Model 539 earlier this year at (believe it or not) a gunshow in California. It is also unfired outside of the factory and NIB with all the included extras. It shipped in August, 1982. I also paid a very reasonable price.

Congrats. You probably don't want to listen to me. I say shoot it and enjoy it. You won't find another one like that for that price.
Are you in it to make money or would you rather enjoy a brand new old pistol?

I'm in it for the enjoyment.

I've never owned a firearm that I didn't shoot. I'll likely send some rounds down range. Great size pistol and very ergonomic. I'll post pics in a day or so.

I got mine unfired but no box. It is no longer unfired. Unless you intend to flip it why let someone else be the first to shoot it? Pics aren't very good but here they are.
