sw22 victory
any thoughts on the Victory, I have one on order. People seem to have trouble with the takedown screw.

Victory TroublesSS
Someone has to be the "early bird"....I prefer to wait while all the initial headaches get resolved by shooters who are more adventurous and have more patience than me. After reading all the problems others are having on other postings, I have decided to wait and shoot my S&W Models 17 and 18 and my Ruger target pistols and my M&P 22 Compact for plinking while others tolerate all the shakedown annoyances with the new Victory. Regards, Ed

They have basically come up with two solutions on a fix for that problem. The 1st one being setting the torque on that screw down to 40 inch lbs and the sec one is use a no. 61 O-ring on the screw which allows it to be tightened and released again without problems. Go ahead and get one as you know the answers for this question now.

The third solution is a thread locking agent. I used Vibratite VC-3, but blue or green Loctite works too.

Great pistol. I have 1540 rounds through mine now and really enjoy shooting it. I have the Volquartsen SS ported/fluted barrel on it and their target grips on order.

Myself I am not in favor of using Locktite on that particular screw and over time I think it will build up into a mess and cause problems in taking it off on putting it back on. Thats only my view.

Great pistol. Just went over 1500 rounds through it today. Barrel has stayed tight the last three trips to the range. I break it down after each session and am getting a feel for the correct torque. I have the allen wrench with me at the range and have accumulated five magazines. After each five mag session when I'm all empty I check the barrel and tighten if necessary. Then reload the mags and start all over.
My target today after 30 rounds at ten yards.

I don't think this pistol will let you down. I can barely see the target at 25 yards anymore but the Victory is a very solid pistol. That bull barrel brings you right back to your aimpoint.

Tight takedown screw> A close fitting pin punch in the socket of the setscrew and a sharp rap with a hammer and the screw comes loose every time.
Screw loosening when shooting? Apiece of 10 or 12 lb monofilament in the screw hole while inserting the screwand you have a nylock set screw. Hasn't come loose for me at all.

Now I am going to give that a try. Although I have to say I have no problem just tightening the screw at the range if it comes loose but I love great ideas like this.

As a previous owner of the King m41, I was astonished with the Victory. Quite impressive that I bought another. Ones will be standard and the second will be a red dot Volquarsen.

**** mine for the first time this weekend. Takedown screw was tight but removed with the supplied wrench. Stayed tight through 2 to 300 rounds. Love those bright sights and great trigger ! Clearly more accurate than I can hold.

That Pesky Screw
Although mine doesn't seem to work loose (I probably am over tightening it to begin with) a couple of guys I shoot with have been cutting a small strip of plumbers' tape and wrapping the screw. Same principle as the monofilament suggestion above.
Hopefully S&W will figure it out, for this is one fine pistol.

Trying VC-3. They claim it's also a removable material. It's the opposite of Lock Tite, you let it dry on the screw threads before use. You can actually feel the added material when tightening.

I agree; Loctite was not designed for screws that are frequently removed. I use Loctite on my optics and mounts. I use Vibra-Tite VC-3 on my takedown screw because that's specifically what is was designed for and it works as advertised.

Meh, I can do that with a shotgun and only use one round.
Just kidding - good work!

I've had mine for three months, no issues whatsoever. It functions perfectly and no take down / barrel screw problems at all. I really like this .22, S&W hit it out of the park on this one. I hope you really enjoy yours.

Wait....you are going to shoot something with NRA on it?? Aren't those letters evil and prohibited? They'll take your gun and chop it up.

Just to show how we have different experiences, I have had no issues with the Victory, but when I purchased my M&P .22 I just about went crazy. It would not feed anything. Even CCI ammo gave it fits. Just as I was about to give up and send it back, I decided to give it a little more time. It took over two thousand rounds to settle down. I found I had to lube it to the point of drowning to get it to feed a whole mag. What finally set it's tortured soul free was 30 weight synthetic auto oil. Then victory (no pun intended) it became one of my favorites. So, as S&W told me on a support call, "Every gun has its own personality." So it would seem. It seems you are thoroughly enjoying you M&P .22, it is a fine gun. But check out the Victory,(which came after my M&P) You will like it also.

Love my Victory, love my M&P .22 compact and love my K-22. No problems just fun at the range. Even like my 34-1 and my wife's Model 317.

Those grips are beautiful, did you notice improved accuracy with the Volquartsen barrel? Do you know the weight of the stock barrel?

The takedown screw is the only problem I have had with the Victory. It works well with any ammunition I've used.

Once you get it torqued right the takedown screw is not a problem.

I really can't say if the barrel was a improvement of not as I installed it the day after I got the gun. I actually had the barrel before the gun came in. I really like it. My intentions was to turn the Victory into a competition Bullseye gun and I think I can do that a lot cheaper then buying a high end gun. I liked the Victory's trigger till I put a Volqaurtsen trigger assy in my Mark III and it ended up at 1 lb 14 oz. Now waiting on them to do a Victory trigger. Will post pictures when the grips come in.

My Volquartsenized Mark III 22/45 Lite runs right around 2# trigger every time I measure. My stock trigger on the 22 Victory measures 4# with lots of take-up. I can't wait for a new trigger.

It took me all day to get that trigger assy in right, I am mechanically challenged, till I found a better video online. In fact I told Volquartsen about the video and they are going to contact the guy. I bet I dissembled and reassembled the gun 2 doesn't times before I got it to work.

Spencer, Iowa is where I was born and raised that would have give me a reason to go home. It the Victory is going to be like that I may take that option.

I love mine. I always at least field strip a new gun before heading to the range to familiarize myself with it and look for any potential problems and make sure it is properly lubed. I added a drop of blue loctite to the takedown screw before I fired the first round. I have used blue loctite on scope base screws for years and it works just as well on the take down screw. My Victory is very accurate and I have zero complaints.

I also have a Ruger Mark III Hunter and I had a Ruger 22\45 Lite and to make them easy to disassemble I had to spend more money on the Majestic speed strip kit not to mention the magazines would not drop free with the magazine safety and for competition shooting that sucks. Also if you want a different barrel for the Ruger you have to get it from an FFL because the barrel is where the serial numbers are on the Ruger.

After shooting 10 rounds thru a Victory earlier this evening I would take it miles ahead of any Ruger made. I have owned them and never enjoyed taking them apart for cleaning at all. The Victory is extremely accurate and miles easier to cleanup as well. Its also many dollars cheaper to buy as well.

You must use the proper size hex wrench to avoid stripping the head. S&W now provides take-down screws with removable Loctite on the threads.

just to add, they give you the hex wrench in the box with the SW22 (Victory) pistol. It's a 1/8 inch hex.

Hi Guys - new member here with a fresh SW22....
Can anyone confirm which loctite would be best for the takedown screw? I was looking today and assumed that the lowest strength 'purple' stuff might be the go?
Just reading in the forum - amazing variance in experiences with the Victory! So far not a single hiccup with mine....touch wood...oh, except for the barrel coming loose now and then like everyone else!!
