Default My 22 Victory failed yesterday

My 22 Victory failed yesterday.
The firing pin return spring broke in the middle and it collapsed on itself.
This prevented the firing pin from being pushed back so that it was not hit by the hammer.
I bought it shortly after they came out and have been shooting about 100 rounds per weekend thru it.
This is a rather disappointing failure,
I feel it is a Poor quality spring steel issue that shouldn't have happened.
I have MKii's that have had very many thousands of round thru them and have never seen a failure like this.
I don't think I have seen a spring failure in any of my other firearms.
I'm not looking forward to finding out how difficult it is to get a replacement spring.
I doubt I will ship the entire firearm back to Smith for repair.
I'm posting this because it is unlike any of the other comments / failures that I have read about.

Although I'm not familiar with the Victory, firing pin springs generally aren't difficult to replace. If you call S&W, perhaps they will send you one rather than have you send back the firearm.

Sorry to hear that. I got my Victory early as well (Jan 20th) and it has 1500+ rounds through it with no problems. Other than the barrel coming loose early on but that is no longer a problem.

I would be surprised if it is not a quick fix by Smith&Wesson.

Good luck.

I'd bet that the spring is outsourced, but it still sucks that it broke. I would call S&W on this. They should make it good, and hopefully throw in an extra spring as well.

I would actually be very surprised if the spring wasn't an out sourced item. It's doubtful in my mind that S&W makes any springs anymore. Like you said, that's no excuse though.

Volquartsen is not yet making anything for the Victory but barrels and grips. I have the barrel, SS ported/fluted, and the grips are on order. talking to them we might see other parts this fall. This place is not far from where I grew up and are very nice and very helpful.

I opened a case with S&W online this morning.
Hopefully they will send me the spring.
I had a spare 22A -1 spring that was a match so I should be back up and running.
I will test today.
Hopefully it was just a fluke and not a bad batch of springs.

I doubt that they will send you the spring. According to the SW22 parts list, the firing pin return spring is not a user serviceable part. I know of several folks that had to send the Victory to S&W to replace the extractor, even though that takes less than a minute to replace.

I emailed S&W support and received a reply to call in.
I called in and had a support person on the phone in under five minutes.
They are sending me a new spring, I will update when it arrives.

May I suggest the easily cleaned S&W 22S which has unfailingly made every shot on almost every brand of ammunition for over 12 years without a single failure....

How do you remove an involuntary "thank" when only trying to scroll??
I'm really happy with my flawless and really easy to clean Victory that has eaten everything I've fed it by the way...

If you are talking about the "like" feature, go to the post you inadvertently hit the "Like" on, and below where the Like button was at should be the text "remove your like" or something along those lines.

Me to it is really a great gun. I have 5 22LR pistols and 2 revolvers and the Victory rates right up there with my Mark III Competition model. I don't need a hammer to field strip the Victory like the Mark III so maybe it is better, and it was half the price.

My replacement spring arrived yesterday in the mail
I was pleased about that
I am assuming since I have not seen other complaints
I must have just got an unlikely bad one
Support was fairly painless to deal with

Just found this thread looking for something else on google.

I posted this up earlier.
SW22 Victory failed to fire

I got two 22A springs from Brownells, that match right up.

Have over 10,000 rounds through it now.

Just trying to put this in perspective. Many of us use Ruger as the gold standard as far as firearms being rugged, and I just wanted to say that I have had the exact same part, firing pin return spring, break on a Ruger MKII pistol as well. These things do happen. I only have less than a thousand rounds through my Victory so far, but I am very happy with it.

Sounds like we have a Happy ending here with this Victory pistol. Springs can break in any make or model of firearm. Thats just the way it is. I have a 1958 year M41 that is only on its second spring and has well over 10,000 rounds thru it of CCI SV. I only changed the 1st spring because I thought it was time.
