3913TSW
Hello all, I have the opportunity to trade my 2nd gen (639) for a 3rd gen 3913TSW. I already own 4 TSW pistols (4566-4513's with and w/o rail) so am familiar with the platform.
Looking for alittle more info re history, dating as the Standard Catalog is vague on this model. BNIB-Rail-with everything. Mfg after year 2000.
3913TSW
BAW6xxx
Product 404531
Fired Case Enclosed
3 1/2 M3913 9mm FS AA T... (I know what FS AA T=TDA)
4103... (???)
(...This is where the sticker starts to cover stuff)
A price sticker is covering the right end of the box label. Catalog doesn't mention Product 404531. Any one with additional info to add please do!
Best, Dave

Is it the early 7 or later 8 round version? The 7rd mags are much harder to find.
Keep that 639 ....... while heavy it make a 9mm feel like you're shooting a .22...............it's the one second Gen Smith I'd like to find.

Mag 7 or 8
Thanks Bam, I have that out there as a ? not answered by the owner yet.
I am the original owner of my 639. Purchased in 1986 for $372.95 from the World Famous National Guns in Northridge, CA. Shot many 1000 rounds and taught all of the kids to shoot on it. Absolute Mint, Mint, Mint condition. Retired a few years back and put the original grips (perfect condition) on it. Some days I want to sell or trade and some days I think I must be outta my mind to let this go. I've had it for 30 years. Along with my BNIB 59 they are alone among a very heavy 3G presence in the safe.
The owner of the 3913TSW has offered me $750 (cash price in Commiefornia) for the 639 or the trade. W/2 mags and sadly the Box, etc. are long gone... I have 5 more original mags too.
SEE the couple pics of my 639...
Best, Dave

With all the memories you have with the Kids, with that pistol, and the many 1,000's of rounds, and since it is Mint Mint Mint. Why not just keep it. Seems like a no brainier to me and I don't think I understand the need for any validation from us. And I'll typically take a 3rd Gen over a 2nd or 1st gen any day of the week.
However, $750 for a 639 is crazy good, even in CA! And I know CA!

I agree, way to many cherished memories with you 639 to get rid of it.
I'd keep it and just purchase the 3913 TSW if you really wanted it.

Valadation not required!
The thread was really to get alittle more info on the date and product code of the TSW in play. I'll call S&W CS tomorrow for their assistance.
Appreciate the thoughts on keeping (no wonder I've had this 30 years so far-Purchased 8-20-1986) and you're all correct.
Last thing I need to do is "Buy" another gun...
Trades interest me more.
However, The question raised is how many guns are enough? The answer is One more than I have...

Look up 104531
I have a couple 3rd gen where Smith changed the 1st digit of the product code from a "1" to a "4". I've posted to this forum in the past why this is or why the 4 instead of 1 and never received an answer.

Great info
Thanks John, That's good enuf for me. Never heard or have seen that in my 3G life... Odd but plausible.
SEE attached pics of the 3913TSW and it's box label.

S&W used product/SKU numbers for their own sometimes arcane purposes.
If it were me ...
I'd not trade a properly functioning all-steel 639 for a 3913 or 3913TSW. If anything I'd want to add the 3913TSW to complement the heavier & slightly larger 639. Give yourself an option about weight when it came time to slip that scabbard on your belt.
I'm not the person to ask, though, as a little while ago I took advantage of an opportunity to buy my issued late production 3913TSW (can't remember, after 2006?), and I already own a 3913 from the end of the 90's (wide barrel tab, spring-loaded decock-only, etc). The real inducement was the price offered, which was so incredibly low that I couldn't see any way or reason to resist. (No, I won't taunt you guys with the cost.)
If I were only going to own ONE single stack S&W, it would be a 3913 or the TSW variant, because it's the lightest and easiest to carry. The 639 probably has some personal investment in it by now, though.
Bottom line? The company doesn't seem as though it plans to ever make more of either. I'd keep both.

Don't feel bad, I own a no rail 3913TSW, a rail 3913TSW (late 2002), and a CA DOC 3913 (I really have to call and get the production date). Oh, and a 3914NL.
I don't plan to sell any of them.

Always something to decide
I'll most probably keep my 639. The temptation of 9TSW; add to my 4566-4513 no rails and rail-TSWs is calling...always EZ to just buy it. Being in CA the task of locating and availiblilty of cool stuff is a challenge.
Maybe he'll take my BNIB 1995 Beretta 8000F-Box marked LE (Made in Italy by Beretta not Stoeger), in trade instead?

I don't know about the change to a "4", but when the first digit is changed to a "6" it appears that it's a "used" gun refurbished for redistribution, as I mentioned in this thread: S&W 4013 - "U" is for Used Gun
A "3" seems to signify it's for law enforcement (LE). The "4", not doubt, has a specific meaning too.

Damn.
I thought I was being a little excessive when I picked up my issued 3913TSW, since I already owned a 3913 and CS9. If I'd not been able to buy my issued 3913TSW, I'd been thinking about a used, but pristine, 908S I'd seen in the case of a gun store. They wanted a LOT for it, $650, but they aren't making them anymore, so the price is whatever the market will bear. Now that I got the 3913TSW, I have no interest in the 908S.

I got em too...
Gee with 2-3913LS, 908, CS9, multiple TSW's, etc. like I need the 3913TSW? You bet I do. Sure to be sorry if I don't buy or trade for it, we'll see what the seller will do now.
Have decided to keep the 639 as where would I get another-especially mine. Thanks to all for their input.

UPDATE!
Having contacted S&W CS here is what I found out re the "4" in the Product #.
In the early 2000's the "4" represented a LE firearm. Shipped for LE use and came with 3 magazines.
Current (later 2000's and present day) "3" is the LE designation.
Mystery solved...

I've probably got some blue plastic boxes left over from that far back (all the blue cardboard boxes got tossed, after I removed the little bags of cleaning tools and some manuals, etc), so the next time I have a couple of those boxes down out of the loft, I'll have to look. I never kept track of product codes/SKU's unless I was ordering a gun, and then it was quickly forgotten.
I don't even know WHY I have all those leftover boxes packed away ...

3 -3913's isn't excessive .....it's just right ....but I do wish at least one of mine was the TSW flavor
