I have 1000 rounds through my new SW22 and am loving it (minus the take down screw prob). I shoot with two thumbs forward grip and I am engaging the safety unintentionally with my strong hand thumb. I have to hold that thumb out to make sure I don't keeping popping it up. Anyone else notice this? Is the safety too loose? Any thoughts?

No I bump mine also normally when I am seating the mag as I go to squeeze off the first shot and it is on. After that it is ok the rest of the rounds. It is not a SD gun so it has not been a concern for me.

Yeah I had the same problem, was at a plate shoot and I kept hitting the safety, good thing my competition was slower than myself. I have to ride the safety like my 1911's.

Well glad to see I was not the only one!

It did seem most of the time it was after a mag change and on the first round that I did notice the safety being on.

Not a SD gun by any means for me, Ill just have to make an effort to modify my grip a bit.

Had the same problem. Mostly after mag change. Driving me crazy. I know it's not self defense. But still an annoyance. Have to get used to it. I'm sure there will be a mod down the road.

Really? I'm a lefty and it's a real nuisance. The knuckle on my index finger constantly inadvertently lifts the safety on while shooting. Talk about a pain in the rear end. I also have big hands so I'm sure that has something to do with it. Volquartsen is making the oversize wooded grips for lefties in the first quarter on 2017 (according to a phone call I had with a VQ representative) and as soon as I get the email verification that they're in, I'm buying one. Of course that'll mean I have to pay $150, but it's either I pay for the new grip or I have to sell my Victory because it's really that bad for me. I'd rather not sell it. I like it, my daughters enjoy it, I just recently bought a new trigger for it, it has the halo ring and shoots like a dream.

I have this problem as do my grandson and one of his buddies. All of us very much like the Victory but the safety problem is annoying. I shoot bullseye in a league and have been frustrated with this on more than one occasion. I called SW customer service today and they made it sound like I was the only one experiencing this and that they had no plans for any design changes. I ordered O rings to address the barrel screw coming loose - so far so good. Couple small design issues that need addressing - otherwise a very nice pistol. Over 500 rounds fired - only miscue was an ammo miss fire.

I finally taped my safety in the off position, seems to engage on its own. I have several Olympic pistols with no safety, and target is all is shoot, so no real issues other than the tape looks rather goofy.

Has anyone found a solution?

Wow you must have big hands! Mine finger comes nowhere near the safety.


and like I said earlier I just bring the thumb up to disengage the safety.

Came on specifically to do a search on this subject (and found this thread) as I have just picked up a Victory (that I really like), but I am consistently engaging a VERY, VERY light safety. It just has very little resistance.

Hope some smart guys here can think of a solution as it is quite annoying as already noted.

Add me to the list of people suffering from this problem. The safety on my Victory will engage itself when simply dry firing the pistol (with a snap cap in place, of course). My hands will be nowhere near the safety and just the action of pulling the slide back with my Tandemkross halo ring will cause it to engage.

I do have huge hands. I noticed in the first pic your left hand isn't on the trigger. When mine is on the trigger and I'm shooting, after several rounds it literally lifts the safety lever up. It's a pain in the ---!!!!

I too am having a problem with the safety engaging when I don't want it to. I have the VQ grips and shoot with both thumbs forward (right handed). I also ride the safety just to be sure it won't come on when I don't want it to. I have been slowly filing the safety arm that is on the outside of the frame to allow the safety to try and stay down and engage the spring harder. It has only helped just a bit. If someone would manufacture (Tandemkross) a re-curved spring that would allow a firmer contact with the safety, our problems would be over.
Just a note on the alleged problem of the take down screw loosening up: I cleaned both the threads of the screw with 91% alcohol as well as the internal threads very well, and have not had a problem with the screw loosening even after a 350 round run one day at the range.
Speaking of the VQ grips, I was having a problem pressing the extended magazine release button with my meaty hands. I have machined about .100" off it and rounded the surface. I won't be doing any speed reloads with this gun so this modification has helped for sure.
Outstanding gun, especially with the VQ and Tandemkross updates.

Since posting this AM I sat down and looked at my safety "issue" on my SW 22 Victory. Two observations:
#1: I sanded down the safety from underneath a bit to reduce the rub on my thumb. This made a noticeable difference! I could still bump the safety but nowhere near as easy as before. Hmmm...
#2: Even though this is a 22 pistol and the recoil is slight, even reducing the small amount of recoil is a good thing, right? This allows you to get back on target faster, right? That being said, If I ride the safety, this brings my grip further up the gun with BOTH hands, thereby reducing even the slight recoil this gun has. I'm thinking that this safety "issue" is actually a blessing in disguise. If you ride the safety with your thumb, it FORCES your grip higher up on the gun, reducing recoil and allowing you to get back on target faster.

I was wondering what the factory had to say about the safety?

Never had an accidental safety engage issue with my Victory.

I hadn't had this problem until today for some strange reason. I haven't shot in a while so maybe my grip has changed. It happened several times so I'll watch closely to see what I'm doing wrong. Nice to see I'm not the only one who experienced this.

I know some folks absolutely love the thumbs-forward grip. To me, it has always seemed more of a "cool" affectation than a practical way to grip a handgun. Regardless of your feeling on the subject -- if it doesn't work with a particular gun, don't use it.

Please tell me you are being sarcastic. The Chiappa products have been the source of loads of online complaints about poor quality. The Victory safety is actually a a good design, but it was just not executed properly. A minor modification to the safety lever will solve the problem. I don't think the Chiappa product comes close the the Victory, quality-wise.

I will have to say, even with the takedown screw problems and the safety issue that little Victory is one fun gun to shoot.

I slightly bent the safety detent spring during disassembly to install new parts.
After reassembly the safety lever was extremely loose with a mind of its own.
No problem, called customer service to get a new one and was told: No can do...send it in. After several tries at reshaping with no results, magnification made it clear where it was bent... Works fine now.

A lot of people like the Victory, I think that it is a solution in need of a problem. I know nothing about Chiappa, but have not heard good things. I like the 22A and especially the 22S and think they are better designed 22 guns. Academic as they are discontinued. My post was not as clear as intended as it took me a while to get the picture of my 22S in. Thank You and Good luck!

cmcinc do you not use a no.61 O-ring on the barrel screw as it will NOT loosen up with one of them placed under it. Most hardware stores sell them very cheaply. Around $1.00 at the most. Don't use locktite as that creates a mess and will eventually cause you more grief.

Indeed I do use use the oring. A very good fix.
