I saw a 4516 today......and brought it home
I stopped in my LGS this morning on the way to the bank, searching for one singe can of HS6, for a 9mm load I want to try. As I was checking out, one of my buddies there snuck up beside me and said " You see that 4516 back there in the case?". I said " Nope, and don't make me go look, I'm saving for a Henry .41 magnum." Well, he made me go look when he turned away and said "It sure has a nice trigger......"? as he walked away.
I told the chick checking me out, "Well ****, just leave my change there, I gotta go look". Turns out it has a fantastic trigger, 3 mags and a box, and he winked and said "$450 out the door."
I left it there. For about 30 minutes. Then I called him up and said. "Stick it under the counter, I'll be back this afternoon." So here she is, a no dash 4516 in pretty darn good shape. It also has the factory grips which are also in great shape. It does need a good cleaning however. I'm going to wipe it off good and shoot it tomorrow before I give it a good bath.
I was also trying to save for a Shield 45, but this may just do me for a while. I'm really liking it. More pictures after I shoot it.

At that price I would have taken it as well. After all you couldn't very well leave it languishing in the case, could you?

Back in May I picked up a -1 in good condition for under 400. It is my truck gun. It is built like a brick but shoots very well.

You wil NEVER REGRET your decision, which was a very good one. The 4516 is well on its way to becoming a classic (maybe it already is). And $450 OTD is a really good deal. Congratulations.

That was exactly what I thought. Same fellow drug me back to the same counter about 2 weeks ago to show me a 1006 they had just got in. I think it was around $750, and I left it there a whole day, and it disappeared.
I decided not to chance it again.

Congrats! Fine 45. Slim, accurate reliable and looks good doing all that.
Think of how much you saved in Apex parts alone. Enjoy your 4516! Regards 18DAI

That was a great price on a great gun. I paid more than that for mine back in 1989, when a dollar was still worth 25 cents.
They are heavy for their size, which is bad for carrying but great for shooting. While I don't have a huge number of rounds through mine, the only stoppage it has had was when, letting another deputy try it out, he loaded the mag with .40 S&W rounds and, as one would expect, they didn't cycle!

Nice buy. I passed on one a little while back, mostly because, to this point, I've avoided going down the .45 cal. 3rd Gen rabbit hole! 9mm is costly enough of a hobby...
Pretty unlikely you'll find yourself beaming with pride of ownership as you slowly unwrap a Shield from your sock drawer.

You have a much better pistol than those currently made. I had one that I bought new. It was too heavy for my likes, so I sold it. I have three other models of gen. 3 pistols in .45 caliber. I have carried the same model for twenty years. You can't buy a pistol today made as well as these are.

Finally got around to a photo of mine. Not as good of condition as yours but still a solid gum for what I paid for it.

Great gun at a great price. I had a pair of them and when I sold them I got $650 for each of them with only two magazines each and no boxes. They were however, in excellent condition. So you should be wearing a mask when you pick that one up for $450.

That one looks pretty darn fine to me! It's rained here most of the day, so still no rounds downrange. I did however get my press switched over from 9mm to .45 ACP. I plan on running a couple of hundred through it , find a holster, and start to carry it daily in place of my 9mm Shield.
I have a holster (IWB) that works for now, and packed it around all day long to see how she feels. I don't foresee any problems carrying it daily once I know it functions properly.
I do want to find a couple more mags for it for sure. I cleaned it up pretty good and it appears to have been fired very little, but I plan on fixing that right away!
Thanks for all of the positive replies, because I did sort of buy it on a whim, without much knowledge about them, but I have learned to trust my instincts. And it is a Smith & Wesson .......

Here's the cool thing. You can still buy these wonderful guns in excellent condition for less than what they cost new. I bought my 4516-2 in Oct. 1996 for $528.00. That's 21 years ago! My point is...they are a good deal.

And I just saw an ad on here for magazines that I need since mine only had one. A fortuitous morning.
