BMCM Works His Majic
Last year I PM'ed member BMCM about how nice of a job he does when he restores 3rd Gen pistols. I asked him if I sent him my 5906 how much would he charge me to bead blast it? He stated that it was not legal to send a firearm to someone by mail, which I did not know this. He asked where I lived and when he found out how close I was to him he offered to bead blast my 5906.
Well, because of my health issues I had to wait to get it done. Finally, my health was good enough for me to go to his house today and have my 5906 bead blasted.
This man is a gunsmith genius! Just watching him work on my 5906 was an art all in itself. He took it ALL apart. He then did lathe work on my barrel and guide rod. While he worked on the barrel and the guide rod he let the frame and slide soak to remove all of the gunk and crud before bead blasting it. Finally, he bead blasted it. This man knows the S&W 3rd Gens like the back of his hand. He doesn't get in a hurry, yet, every move he makes counts. I will not reveal what we agreed upon as payment, but, IMO, I think I underpaid him! Oh, and he fixed the hand guard on my AR-15 as well!
In the pics below, the first pic is my 5906 before the work. The rest are after BMCM worked his majic!

I want to also add, that he polished, sanded, filed, smoothed, and any other way there is to do it, to all of the internal parts that moved or moved on something else.
I still can't get over how good of a job he did!

Um, you mean, it doesn't?
BTW, I'm an ex RM...it's extinct. Old Guard, when the ships were made of wood, and the men were made of steel...
Okay, my ship was made of aluminum. Long story.
I'm thinking of sending my 3rd gens off to the "Gun majician"! This guy's a wizard!

I had an uncle who was a Quarter Master in the navy. I think he was only in for one enlistment. He had some good stories back when I was a kid.
Not that it has anything to do with the navy or the topic, but his name was Gary Cooper. Not THAT Gary Cooper, but they were both in the Mass. General Hospital at the same time in the late 1950s.
My uncle got some interesting gifts and visitors. Both of which ended up with the "real" Gary Cooper when it was all figured out.

If he ever does work for me again I am going to bring him some of my shrimp or crawfish etouffee, seafood gumbo, or, some kind of good cajun dish!

It's kind of funny (sad, actually) that we are are so short of top-shelf gunsmiths up in my area. The ones that are left are almost too busy to even talk with you. I was so pleased when a very decent gunsmithing shop moved in a mere 7 miles away as the bird flies. But the owner saw greener pastures elsewhere (despite a never-less-than 3-month backlog) and moved on. Yesterday, I tried to get to see the only two remaining ones that I trust who still do general work... but "no-go" without an appointment, both complaining about their workload and backlog.
My resulting "not happy" face:
