Default Grail Gun Found and Bought today ...

I purchased the holy grail, Unicorn (to me) S&W Performance Center "Shorty Forty" From the first run of 500, serial number PCS0039. Matching performance Center plastic box with stickers intact.

I've got the 411 "value line".40 which I have come to like quite a bit. The 11 round double stack mags will fit the Shorty and I've got six or seven of those.

I can't wait to get it in hand and see if it looks as good as the photos. And then shooting it will be the true test.

Well done, sir. Enjoy.

By all means, let us know how she does.

It is a "she", correct?

Well I consider my 3914 LS a "she" but my shorty forty will be my "man gun" as the 39th weapon produced in the first run of 500 I'd think that this weapon has greater historical significance than the billboarded "Shorty 40"s produced later.

So your the one that got it. Congrats!!! The price on that was pretty good in my opinion. Welcome to the Shorty 40 club. Hope you like her as much as I like mine. My Shortt 40 has become a daily carry gun for me.

VERY NICE, it's always nice to get the

box, and the entire package. Looks a lot

like a 6906, even the mags.

(IF I were trolling, I would have said "clips".)

I have a couple of the Shorty-9s from the early and mid 90s ........those early PC guns are great guns.... built by the last of S&Ws "gunsmiths"!

Enjoy

So you saw the weapon on Gunbroker as well. Thanks for not bidding. I was the only bidder and got it for the opening bid of $1100. I was prepared, and expecting, to go much higher.

I hope the gun meets my expectations. I liked the very low serial number. Most likely at some point in the hands of Mr. Liebenburger, the man who did what "couldn't be done" in bringing the Shorty Forty into production.

I feel like I will own a piece of history with this weapon. My first Performance Center Smith.

Yep I watched it get relisted a couple of times. I already have mine and have a few other ongoing projects so I just watched it. I paid $100 more than you did.

You will love that gun!

A Shorty 40 was my first Performance Center pistol as well, and though I eventually got out of that caliber, I thoroughly enjoyed and was impressed by mine. Just racking the slide is a pleasure, as the workmanship is so outstanding.

You did well with your purchase at that price, too!

Default Picked it up last night ...

After waiting with great anticipation my Shorty 40 finally arrived last night. The weapon exceeded my expectations and is absolutely flawless. LNIB as far as I can tell.

Needless to say as soon as I got it home I took it out back to try it out. I pulled a mag out of my model 411 and fired off 10 rounds of Critical Defense (my carry load) from 10 yards.

Seems to shoot a bit to the left on the shots that I felt had a good sight picture and release (the ones that are touching on the attached target). On close examination it appears that the front sight is a tiny bit right of center, so drifting that to the left a little should bring it to point of aim for me. The "flyers" were sent in aimed but rapid fire, the stray at the top must have been poorly aimed, all me, total user error.

The trigger in double action is super smooth, feels like the pull on my model 69. The break is very crisp and very light in SA. My 3913NL has a trigger job by "T" and this one is even lighter and smoother. I don't have a gage to measure it but it is clearly better than any other handgun I own, including revolvers.

That would be Paul Liebenberg who operates Pistol Dynamics and built the first M4006 prototypes after Smith & Wesson's in-house design staff said it was impossible.
