Default S&W 1911 rear sight question.

I got a S&W 1911 not too long ago. Nice gun, but the rear sight is adjustable and kinda sharp. I had a gunsmith take the edge off the corners and it did help, but it's still kinda sharp, and digs in sometimes. This seems to be an odd cut on the slide. Is this the "Bomar" cut or some funky proprietary **** like some manufacturers do?

My 1911 is an older one, before they started with the ugly fish scale slide serrations.

The rear sight is low mounted into the slide. The milled slide is common with those sights. I have the current PC version with the same sight. I personally like the fish scales.

Adjustable sights are usually the choice of buyers seeking a handgun for primarily target use while those wanting a carry gun opt for a non-adjustable rear sight that offers a lower and smoother profile. I have three S&W 1911s, a .45ACP and a .38 Super for target use and a .45ACP for carry, and their sights differ accordingly.

Hmm - no photo on hand of all three together but here's two plus one.

As far as the slide serrations go, I like most styles (all of mine are different) and don't mind the fishscale ones as they at least are different without being distasteful. Yours is a very attractive and classic-looking gun. I prefer your trigger over the ones with three holes and plan to eventually replace mine with the style in your gun as well as add a magwell to the E-Series Sc.

I must also say that my three S&W 1911s absolutely blow away the Kimbers they replaced in terms of appearance, function and customer service.

I like most 1911s but the S&Ws are my favorites!

Seeing those photos of mine posted reminded me that my two adjustable sights are different. The .38 Super came with a Wilson Combat rear sight and as you can see, it has a tapered or ramped forward edge while the .45ACP PC gun's sight has a squared edge like yours.

Perhaps the Wilson sight might be a good compromise for your gun.

I am confused on the rear sight because my other 1911s just had a regular dovetail, this one has the back end of the slide cut down, and was wondering if a Bomar sight would fit. It's my every day carry piece.

I believe that has to do with it being an adjustable sight.
