Used 6946
Is $299 too much for a used police S&W 6946 with 1 mag?

If it's in decent shape, $299 is a steal.

My 3rd Gen collection is still lacking a Model 6946 so I've always got my eyes open for one in very good to excellent condition at a fair price. I'm in pretty good shape 6900-series magazine wise... so I'd certainly be willing to pay $299 for the right 6946 with just one magazine.
But as always, condition is everything to me. I'd rather pay $399 or even more for one in top "slightly used" condition with original box and two or more factory stainless magazines.
Cop gun sometimes means "used & abused" so only you can decide if $299 is fair for the particular 6946 in question.

Neh! You're not going to find much in the way of gun under $300 unless it was a dirt cheap throw away to begin with or or just something that doesn't sell well.

I agree: that's a fine deal.

I paid more than that for my 6946 police trade in. I was a little hesitant at first...but when I got it home and shot it, I knew I made the right call. I love the way that thing shoots...and so does my girlfriend. It is now my girlfriends favorite gun...of mine...I think it's still mine anyway!
But YES, I would pay that for a 6946! One of the best shooting guns I have. I love it. Eats everything too.
Get it!

How many other functioning 13 shot pistols were in that display for 299? It is a good buy to me. Collecting comes down to your level of sophistication and the thickness of your wallet. If you want a representative model and will shoot or carry it, then it's for you. If you demand perfection, a box, instructions and a second or third magazine, then it's not for you. BTW what happened to the extra mags that came with the guns?

$299 sounds great but the fly in the ointment is just one magazine. I looked on GB a couple of days ago and there were just a few 12-rd mags listed for beaucoup bucks - along with some cheap-looking 10-rd Mec-Gar's. Checking that Flea site revealed one BNIB S&W 10-rounder for $70!! ...
Maybe some of your fellow SWF members, sitting on lotsa mags, will offer to sell you a couple at a reasonable price. I did my civic duty last week by selling my last spare, a cobbled-up mag (the mag body was S&W 12-rd), to a fellow SWF member for postage - although he was kind and added another $10. I think he had one of the versions with no mag.
Added: I'm still looking for two 10-rounder's to use as range mags for my two 6906's ... I'm amazed that S&W won't have Metalform (I assume) make a run of 6906 mags. The 4506, 4516 and 39XX series are available on Midway.

Reason: Still looking for two 10-rounders

I'd take it. Even with just one mag I think it's a good deal. Pick up some 15rd mags and shoot 'em up!

As many have noted the LE trade-ins can display cosmetic wear anywhere from beat up to very good condition but mostly haven't been shot that much. For $299 you can't miss.

Ouch. That's not the most glowing condition assessment I've ever heard.

The LE trade-ins are the dogs of the deal because the officers usually had a buy back price and all the good ones never hit the market. Those keepers are the LE guns to watch for because they were well cared for and can pop up when funds are tight, trade bait, etc.

If it's in good shape, I'd be all over it. I paid $329.00 for my LE trade in 6906. Mine appears to have been a plainclothes gun and is in excellent shape. Finish isn't perfect, but I didn't expect it to be. It was carried in a holster for years. It appears to have been very well cared for.
It came wit one mag. I bought quite a few 5906 and 6906 mags at the same time.
I have no regrets.
I have a 5946 and would love to have a 6946.

I suppose I will be beat up – electronically… – if I mention that GB has at least a couple of great looking 6906's for around $365. Supposedly the seller has posted actual pictures – and the one for 365 looks new. The one for 365 also does not have any NPD or such markings on it.

You can convert your 6906 to a 6946.
You can also change it back.

I have two trade-ins from the St Louis PD. Both have no magazine disconnect. Both have become my favorite semi-autos. I love the short double-action trigger. Super design!
