I've heard of it being done in the past. I think it may require some slight fitting. So long as the dust cover on the frame is long enough, everything else is in the same location, as I recall.

I can only mention quickly that when I tried to swap the slide stops between my 659 and my 5906, they would not swap. I tried this last week. I don't have them in front of me right now but one of them has a slight cut that the other doesn't have and they aren't a direct swap.
I think you could make your swap but it might take some final detail alterations.

i traded another member some old slides i didn't need for a 659 slide with better sights. but it just doesn't fit my frames which made me wonder if i was sent a 5606 slide. I inquired the other member who indicated they were a simple swap out but i wonder if it came from a 5906 frame as i am having trouble putting it on,,and the old slide never had those problems.. Noting what is being said above is the same what i am thinking, but i am hoping for confirmation. I am taking to my gunsmith Friday and will know for sure then. The above comments were what i also thought about not being an actual fit......

If it has a barrel bushing that rotates and drops out freely, it is a 2nd Gen slide. If the bushing is press-fit in to the frame and does not come out, it is a 3rd Gen slide.
