Default Model 439 spring/hammer issues

I have a Smith & Wesson 439, I ordered a set of Wolff springs for it (cheap insurance) I switched most of the springs out however it now has an issue in double action it will not pull the hammer back all the way and it will not hit the firing pin. Single action is fine. It only started doing this after I changed the springs in the slide. Figured I would troubleshoot on here before I accept defeat and send it off to a gunsmith.

Welcome to the Forum !

I don't have any experience with the 2nd Gens, only the 3rd Gens, but let me ask a couple question so it can help others help you.

What all springs did you change exactly?

Did you completely disassemble the firing action & sear?

If you replaced the firing pin spring did you recheck that any disconnectors it has (FP blocker, etc.) are free & not being limited in anyway?

Thank you for the welcome! All frame springs were replaced so I basically disassembled the frame. Shot it the next day and ran fine. Day after that, I started on the slide. Replaced all but the extractor spring. (The replacement looked too small). The FOP spring was replaced and tested with De-powdered and De-bulleted casing. Hit primer very well. As to the last question, I couldn't tell you. Thought it might be the mainspring but swapping it didn't help.

[QUOTE=gunnut1911;139476124] It only started doing this after I changed the springs in the slide.

Did you remove the rear sight and replace the Ejector Depressor Plunger Spring and Firing Pin Safety Lever Spring?

Yes I replaced those springs. Could that cause double action malfunction you think?

Could be, that's why I asked about the disconnectors. I'd look at that closer.

Update: the allen head holding the rear sight on is stripped and i cant get it back apart. waiting on replacement so I can investigate further. Also saw on Gunbroker a 439 parts kit i'm currently bidding on. those parts look in much better shape than my example.

So the auction didn't go well so I will have to order from numerich. Might also try to order a new extractor spring from wolff. I really opened up a can of worms with this one!
