S&W 457 Two-Tone
Just waiting for midnight and was thinking would anyone have info on it. Flat black slide with safety/decocker, flat silver (alloy) frame Serial # VZE23XX. On the box product code 130120 and spec ord 6276. Has the wax paper, bore brush and owners book. Only came with 1 mag.
Is it part of the Value Line Smiths?
Thanks and Happy New Year.

The SCSW identifies that product code as a 1997 two tone variation, black slide and satin stainless frame, having twice the standard value, and was a special run for Zanders Sports. It does not identify it as part of the value line series as it does for some of the other 457 models.

Thanks bro, never heard of Zanders Sports. Twice the value? Why?

That name Zanders, sounded a little familiar to me, but I can't seemed to recall anything about them, a quick google search shows it as a sporting goods distributor; not sure why it is identified as having twice the value, just guessing, but maybe it is like some of the special runs that S&W did decades back for the Lew Horton firearms distributor that bring a premium. Hopefully someone on the forum that knows more than me about this will step in here to help.
The business directories show Zanders as being located in Illinois.

Found a S&W Forum Thread from 4/20/15 about Zanders and the 457. Zanders is in Sparta Ill and still in business.
I traded a S&W SD9VE NIB for it so I made out pretty good.
Have yourself a great New Year, and thanks for you help.

I saw a used Zander 457 just about a year ago at a LGS. It was priced at $450.00 and sat for months before it sold. I've ssen a few others at shows with high prices, but every gun at a show is high priced.
I think valuation in the SCSW is optimistic.

I normally would have agreed with you, but since it's mine I like the SCSW price evaluation.
Happy New Year

I think you'll be impressed with the 457, ozarkmarine. Yes, it's Value Line, but it's a solid, accurate, and durable compact 45.
I'd have made the trade you describe all day long and twice on Sunday.
I hope the 4th edition of the SCS&W has taken out the "twice the value" notation regarding the Zander Sports models. It just doesn't bear out in the market. To tell you the truth, the 457S model is, IMHO, the most valuable of the three.
Of course, I own one, so it's not a difficult conclusion to draw.
Enjoy that fine 45!

The SCSW 4th Edition does identify it as having twice the value and that it was only manufactured that one year.
