New to me Model 46 w/ pictures
I have been looking for a shooter grade S&W model 41 but found this model 46 on an auction site. I placed my bid and waited. This should be at my FFL late this week. It has been drilled and tapped for optics which is fine with me since they are including a "old" red dot Mark III with the pistol.
I will give it a try with the early red dot and see how it works out with my old eyes.
2 Mags, 2 set of grips and the optics + the pistol for $715 delivered to my FFL.

HogNFrog - couple of suggestions. Hard to tell but looks like an early 46 with square intersection where slide rails meet slide body (rather than radiused at juncture). 46s tend to have cracks at that intersection especially if square cut. USE Std Velocity Ammo ONLY!!!!
Also this pistol is probably 60s to mid 70s production. A detailed cleaning is in order for old powder/crud that has hardened. Also consider replacing the slide spring. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!

824tsv - my error - latest I show was 1968, but "guessing" a couple as late as 1970. Thanks for catching my error - Kinda a "ready, fire, aim".

For $715, not a bad snag, nice little gun. Agree with Tom B., they usually are dirty. I dont know why. Could be just from design and it is a 22LR.
Shoot and clean. Best

I am not a stranger to S&W model 41's as I have several. I will have my FFL check the slide for cracks as soon as it arrives from the seller. Where do I get a recoil spring for this?

Ditto Tom Beckwith's warning. I am the proud owner of a very old, once great shooting model 46 with a cracked slide.

I also have a older M46 with NO cracks in the slide at all. It shoots just as good as my M41 does. Your gun will be very Happy shooting CCI-SV ammo only. Pics for us to see when you get it Please. They are a great gun to shoot.

Update: After the USPS lost the package it finally arrived at my FFL safe and sound. He inspected it under magnification to check for any cracks in the slide and there are none. It has replacement wooden grips that are chipped, but I knew that from the photo's. Overall he says the gun is in great shape for its age. I am waiting for him to give me the serial # ( I forgot to ask him for it) so I can get a DOB. It will be awhile before I get to shoot it because the pistol is in Wisconsin and I am in Florida until early May.

New to me S & W model 46
Rec'd serial # from my FFL on my S & W model 46. Serial # is 27438 so I am guessing about 1958/59.
