Default What's the deal with these M59 sights?

Saw this gun on Gunbroker last night. I didn't bid on it and the auction has already ended but I was curious about the sights. It appears to be factory installed target rear sight with an extremely high front sight. Looks sort of like the sights on Browning Hi Powers. I did a Google image search for the M59 and found a couple more with the same set up so I don't think it's a one-off.

I'm just curious about them. How uncommon was this configuration? Is it desirable. It looks weird for the barrel length.

Inquiring minds want to know.

They are Millet Sights.
Aftermarket.
Gunsmith installed.
Not made anymore but can sometimes be found on the internet.

I think that they are Millet sights, no longer available except from auction sites. There are many threads on the sights if you use the search function. Speaking for myself as a collector, I prefer stock sights. The Millets were popular among shooters when the Model 59 was new.

Milletts sights were terrific sights and almost everyone of my S&W revolvers has them installed. The great part about them was you could order all sorts of different types and colors and once on the gun they would almost jump out at you. Millett was one of the last great multi make sight companies on the market and it was a sad day when they gave up making their line of iron sights.
