Default Model 59 Slide Stop Issues

Hi. I am new to this forum. I have a Model 59 that throws the slide stop out of the gun during rapid fire. My ginsmith advised me to replace the recoil spring. I found this strange but i did so. It helped for a while but the issue has re-surfaced. The s/n is A2466XX. Can anyone possible provide any answers? Thank you! Tylerboy. ([email protected])

PS-Can anyone advise the date or year of manufacture?

IIRC the slide stop is retained by the spring loaded plunger in the rear end of the guide rod that engages a detent on the slide stop cross pin,

The detent is underneath and cannot be seen in this pic
Check the spring loaded pin in the slide stop is functioning as well.

Check the spring loaded pins are not sticking in both the guide rod and slide stop.

The slide stop pin should only be able to pass through the slide when the notch is aligned with the pin hole like this:

PS if you look closely at the above pic you can see the spring loaded plunger in the bottom of the hole

Default You found my problem!!

Engine49guy, THANK YOU very much for your time and effort with your reply including the photos!! The problem with my gun was the plunger at the chamber end of the guide rod. The spring is very weak and does not fully extend the plunger. I have just ordered a new guide rod assembly from Gun Parts Corp at $21.00 delivered. I am confident that it will solve my problem. Thanks again and have a great day! Tylerboy.

As Engine49guy pointed out, the slide stop should only come out when the stop notch in the slide is aligned with the slide stop pin. This causes me to believe that the slide stop is likely damaged too, you should probably order one of them too!

Glad that it helped, Also glad you understood what I was driving at since I didnt point out that the spring I was referring to is replaceable and pinned inside the guide rod behind the plunger.

You can drive the retaining pin out of the guide rod and replace the plunger spring keeping that assembly as a spare. I have purchased replacement springs online from a company called WOLFF springs with very good luck.
