Default S & W bodyguard malfunction

I have the Bodyguard 380 and have had a lot of issues with it as far as stove pipes and jamming. I tried different makes of ammo with no luck. Today at the range I found the slide will not fully go back and load the next round and I am unable to field strip it. I purchased it new in December 2015 and was told S & W will repair it even though it has been 14 months. Any experiences with this issue or S & Ws repair policies? Thanks!

S&W will fix it on their dime, although it may take several trips to the factory.

Call them.

These pistols can be buggy.

More information would be helpful. How many rounds do you have through it since you purchased it? How many times have you field stripped it for cleaning?

Do you know why you can't disassemble it now?

I've had excellent customer service for my 686-6 and Bodyguard 380.

Thanks for the reply. I have less than 100 rounds through it. The reason it won't field strip is the slide won't quite go all the way back where I can activate the release lever. I have probably field stripped it 4-5 times with no issues.

Do you have the laser model? What gen do you have? The first gens a small percentage of them the battery cap pops up blocking the slide from moving back. Sounds like this is what ur issue is. S&W will fix and upgrade you to the new "red button" laser

You do have my sympathy about this pistol. I bought one, and sold it without firing it, a couple of dry fires convinced me about the abysmal trigger. Then when I had to push the magazine release to insert a magazine, that was it. I bought a Ruger Custom LCP to carry around the farm. It has a good trigger, is a bit smaller and easier to pocket carry. I have been well pleased with it so far. I hope you get your BG fixed so it will work for you.

Thank you all for the feedback. I contacted S & W today and they immediately said there is a screw in the laser sight that has backed out creating the malfunction and I have to return it for repair (no cost). This appears to be a common problem. I have been less than pleased with it so when I get it back I will be trading it in on something else.

When you get it back the first thing I do with any firearm is grab my Dremel some polish and hit the feed ramp, that makes a world of difference in feeding ammo. My Bersa thunder 380 was very finnicky with ammo and after polishing it up it even runs cheap Russian ammo now with know issues. If you buy stuff from Longhunter, CZ customs,Cajun gun works, Evil Roy, you always get polished flawless operation, why don't the manufacturers get it and step up a bit?

Might consider a LCP II if you can find one.

The screw coming loose in the laser models is all too common. At this point, I'd disassemble and loc-tite it straight out of the box before even firing it. But, that is also why I bought a non-laser model. Less things to go wrong...
