Default Model 52 Question

Ok, I'm new to this forum but joined to learn more about my Smith & Wesson collection. I recently purchased a Model 52 (no dash) and the firearm came in what appears to be an original Smith & Wesson wooden presentation case with blue plastic insert. Did Smith & Wesson produce Model 52 presentation cases for the Model 52? Also I'm curious as to the date of assembly. The serial number is 516XX. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello 999, you got me curious. I have Sn. 51619 in my data sheet, shipped Sept. 1969. These ship dates are all over the place. Now the box. You got me scratching my head on that one. Never seen one. Some pics would be great. Stay with us. Best

I would agree that I have never seen a "factory issued" wood presentation case as an option for any Model 52. For sure, there were a lot of these boxes made and offered for accessory sale after the fact, but I can't say I am aware of them offering it as a shipped, factory option.

I would also say that I am a bit curious just how well the pistol fits the cutout for the pistol inside the box. Does it truly sit in there as if the cutout were made specifically to cradle a Model 52? Then again -- this blue plastic insert also seems hard for me to picture, does this insert fit the box perfectly as if it were made for the wood box or adapted to fit the wood box?

Pictures are always a wonderful addition to any discussion but in this one, it seems an absolute necessity.

I remember a two piece blue cardboard box, with a blue liner similar to the presentation boxes, but soft foam. I could be wrong though.
