Default PERFORMANCE CENTER Model SW1911, lefthand shooters

Hey everyone, I am new to the handgun shooting world, interested in taking it up after competition/hobby shooting clays for 10 years after I tried some handgun shooting at the local ranges open shooting sports day.

Anyway I came across a used SW Performance center SW1911 for a reasonable price in really good condition otherwise I would be looking at a more entry level gun, was wondering what is everyone opinion of this gun, in relation to left hand shooting,

Is it manageable to learn its use as a left hand shooter from the start, or is some modifications recommended.

Sorry for the newb question.

Agricon Welcome to the Forum, The Grips can be changed easy enough for a left handed shooter. The safety may not be on the correct side for you .Make sure the gun feels real Good in your hand for balance and Hand Fit. They are a well made gun that shoul dlast you for many years of Good shooting with it.

Default Re:: Leftu and 1911.

I too am left-handed... to make my 1911 more useable, I added an extended ambi safety and an extended slide release. Operate the
safety w/ my left thumb and release slide and drop the mag w/ my trigger finger. Works well for me !

I much prefer grips that are not shaped in any way on 1911s.

I prefer slab sided, narrow grips: they work regardless of right or left handed shooting.

I've used the slide release about 20 times in 40+ years of shooting 1911: you should never shoot one dry so you don't need the slide release. You change magazines with one in the chamber
and don't have a use for the slide release

You don't need a modified slide release.

Operate the magazine release with your left trigger finger. Very natural and easy.

The only change you'll want is a reversed thunb safety.

DUE TO MEDICAL ISSUES, I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO LEARN TO SHOOT WITH MY LEFT HAND. I HAD ALREADY INSTALLED AN EXTENDED SLIDE RELEASE, AND AN OVERSIZE MAG RELEASE BUTTON AND SAFETY (WILSON COMBAT PARTS) ON MY COLT GOLD CUP, WHEN I WAS SHOOTING IT RIGHT HANDED.......

I FOUND IT VERY EASY TO TRANSITION TO USING MY LEFT HAND. AFTER A WHILE, I BEGAN TO THINK THAT THE 1911 IS MORE USER FRIENDLY, WHEN SHOT LEFT HANDED. I DON'T THINK THAT YOU WILL HAVE ANY PROBLEMS, EVEN WITHOUT MODIFYING YOUR GUN. (TRY IT BONE STOCK FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, TO DECIDE WHAT--IF ANYTHING--YOU NEED TO CHANGE, BEFORE YOU START SWAPPING IN MODIFIED PARTS) I WOULD STAY WITH THE STANDARD THIN, SLAB SIDED GRIP PANELS....

COUNTLESS LEFT HANDED MILITARY TROOPS SHOT THE STANDARD ISSUE 1911s, WITH THEIR LEFT HANDS, FOR MANY YEARS, WITHOUT A PROBLEM.......

Left handed and own many 1911's. Only thing I do for my disability is add a ambi safety.
