Default Collector's Opinion Wanted

Not necessarily a collector any opinion is welcome. I've got a few 3rd Gen Autos. One in particular is a nice 5943TSW but has 10rd ban era mags it came with. My question- Should I keep those mags with the gun as "factory correct" for the next owner? Or donate them to someone in a 10 round limit state?

I would keep them in the box, myself. I'd also buy some 15 rounders from Midway if I lived in a state where I could have new 15 rounders.

See my magazine sale a Midway thread. I think they had some 15 round magazines there. If not, Mec Gar makes an identical 15 round magazine that's worked very well for a number of people.

I don't see anything significant to be gained by giving or selling them off. You've got the original factory box so it probably behooves you to keep the entire original factory package intact. You never know when you might need a neutered moonbat state magazine.

Oh I did. Ordered 4, with this gun in mind. That got me thinking about those darn 10 rounders.

Keep them. Always keep the items it came with.

After you get some standard capacity mags, you can always use the 10s at the range. If nothing else use them to practice magazine changes.

I would keep them. An in tact package will always move faster than just the gun. Glad you got in on the Midway sale.

I am of the mind that the 10rd magazines were never "correct" for the pistol in the first place. Even during the ban era I would have replaced those magazines with still-plentiful 15rd magazines. There are many people in California (soon to become criminals if in possession of pre-ban magazines) who would love to have those 10rd magazines as they are discontinued.

I agree, and if that same pistol had been ordered from S&W by a sworn officers, it would have LE-marked ban-era 15rd mags and if it had shipped before or after, it would have non-marked 15rd mags.

Another thing to consider is that here in 2017... it either needs those mags for sale to a 10-limit state, or it's a silly handgun (in the opinion of some) for being a large, bulky, heavy double-stack 9mm that only carries 10-rds.

I think it makes more sense with hi-caps and guns of that era are not enhanced by "originality" when packaged with neutered mags.

Selling that gun locally (to a non-collector) in a free state, perhaps not. Selling that gun via the Interwebs, do you really want to exclude or discourage bids from the restricted moonbat states? Even if the moonbat state bidders don't win, they can help drive up the top bid price. Yes, it has happened. Ask me how I know.

No, I do understand that -- I suppose my point wasn't all too clear, but it seems to me that a large, fat, metal-framed double-stack 9mm is NOT much of a "big seller" to folks in 10-limit states. Certainly, to guys like us who collect them and don't care so much how many rounds we have (because we just love the pistols...) but I'm saying that a full-size metal "wondernine" isn't much of a seller in a limit state anyway.

As for originality... S&W actually shipped 3rd Gens in many ways. Haha, reminds me of one of my buddies who ordered a factory new Browning Hi-Power about 5 years ago from Bud's and a day after ordering mentioned to me that he clicked and ordered the "C" model. I didn't know what the "C" model was either UNTIL his new BHP arrived with a pair of California-legal 10rd mags.

Hmmm, is it still a "HI" Power if ya knock a third of the ammo out?

Always remember that moonbat state members need love too. We feel very left out of a lot of the fun.

As an aside to this conversation, I am trying my best, as we speak, to acquire a certain brand new handgun (one of the last ones on my bucket list) that is rarely found anywhere with 10-round magazines. They just don't cater to the moonbat states. Nobody can do anything for me... not the MA dealers, not the foreign dealers, not that large firearms auction website... nobody. I'm pretty much locked out because of that.

Similar, but probably solvable someday, none of my local dealers can put their hands on a Canik TP9SF with 10-round magazines for me. I hope it is a temporary hold-up just due to the fact that demand is outstripping supply since the gun became legal to buy in loony moonbat MA.

And mystery of mysteries: Sig, along with all its dealers, have been out of 10-round P226 magazines in 9mm for many months now. Very frustrating!

So give us moonbat state members a little love. We need all we can get!

+1 on keeping the mags. You can never have too many!

I say always keep all original parts that came with any gun to-gether with the box. Every part counts for more re-sale value.

Stash 'em in the gun box & forget about 'em.
If you ever sell the gun, sell it with the 10's & to the classifieds/auctions with the 15's.

It's been my experience selling the gun with anything more than what it came from the factory with does not necessarily bring the added value of any extras sold with it.
