S&W 1006(10mm) ...help!
I recently picked up a 1006 (10mm), the aluminum guide rod is trash.
Does anyone know where I can get one?
I searched everywhere and came up with nothing.

A very, very tough part to find. It's the same one that's on the 645, 4506, 1006, etc. I collect S&W 3rd Gens, but parts for the pistols are getting harder and harder to find. I stocked up back in 2007 and 2008 when most parts were cheap and readily available direct from S&W Customer Service. However, those days are long gone. Good luck!

In a worst case situation, perhaps a talented tool & die maker/machinist could replicate one for you out of tool steel.
We have such a person on the forum.

If you're not able to find a replacement I can make one for you.

BMCM, you're darn good people. Everyone knows that already but there's never a bad time to mention it.
The guide rod in that picture looks HORRENDOUS. Anyone have any theories on how it ended up that way? Maybe coated in some kind of substance that somebody had thought would be a good idea... that turned out to be a very bad idea? I would expect a guide rod to look like that if it was on a pistol fished out of a pond.

You can use a steel one from a 4506 if you can find one. I have one in my 1006.

There is someone on this forum who can make these, and make them very well. I had the aluminum one in mine, and preferred the steel - well, he made them, and I believe they are probably better than the factory aluminum ones! Sorry I don't have access to the contact info at this time, but will try and find it and edit it in later.

Guide rod looks like it was attacked by salt water - looks exactly like salt water corrosion!

Your local machine shop should be able to help you out. Even better if you have a buddy with a lathe. Even a small one would handle this job.

I picked up 3 from numrich a few months back. One was black. Obviously not for a 1006/26/46. I figured it must be for a 45xx series. They do get them back in stock from time to time. I've also seen them on eBay.

guide rod for 1006
You may want to try gungaragegunparts.com 479-524-2038
Some time ago, I need slide plate assembly and this guy just happened to have one. May be he will have a rod.
Also, Jack-First-Gun-Parts in one of the Dakotas may have one. They stock S&W parts. Maybe you will luck out and find one somewhere

I'm assuming that's directed at me
If you care to see how it's done... have a look over here.
Starting at post #18 I detailed the process of making a pair of solid stainless guiderods.
10mm Conversion Lab - C'mon in Y'all
As I recall... last time I made one for somebody I was asking for $60 shipped.
I use either 410 or 416 stainless steel depending on what's handy in the bin. I could probably re-build that one of yours with a new chunk of aluminum but I believe a solid steel version is a much better, longer lasting (as in forever) option. Just let me know what you want to do.
Cheers
Bill

Ok, just checked the metals drawer and I have all the materials needed so I'll get crakin' on it this weekend as time permits.
Cheers

Well, I didn't realize that the rules here are so stringent...I got a warning already about language, so I'll probably get banned eventually.
I want to get my ph# out there before it happens, so I can remain in contact for the guide rod.
In case I do get banned, call me direct.

I am planning on keeping it as a standby in case I decide to part with the 1006 and need to restore it to original status - sorry.
