Question CS9D Action Work???

I recently acquired a CS9D which is double action only (see more information here). I really like the pistol but its trigger pull is pretty heavy. It has a real DAO system, not the half-cock system as seen on the 3953/5946/etc. As much as I like my Glocks and Kahr K9, I am finding myself drawn to guns with external hammers for concealed carry lately, mostly my HK P30SK LEM V1. I think this CS9D would excel for me but I wouldn't mind getting that trigger pull to be more manageable.

I'm wondering if a Autopistol 3rd Generation Action Package ($160) from S&W will be worth the trouble. They did a Combat Revolver Package on my 2-5/8" 686 and its trigger (both DA and SA) is phenomenal. Should I expect a similar result with the DAO trigger on this CS9D? The work on the 686 was well worth the money to me and it will be on this CS9d too if I can expect similar results.

If I get some good feedback on experiences I might send my 3906 in too.

Well, I got impatient and called S&W. I've got a shipping label now and I'm going to send it in for the work. I probably won't get it back for 2-3 months but I'll report here to let everyone know how it turns out. Hopefully they can tune a 3rd gen auto DA trigger as well as a DA L-frame trigger. If so, this should be a very sweet carry pistol for me.

It's interesting that they are still doing this kind of work on 3rd Gen guns. Maybe I should say encouraging. We've had recent reports that S&W has stated that they will only do repair, not upgrades or enhancements to guns.

It will be interesting to read about your experience with this.

They still offer the service on their website. The guy had to put me on hold for a bit while he verified that the CS9D was eligible for the service. He confirmed it was and said that the trigger should be much better.

I finally got the CS9D back from S&W this week and shot it today. It was worth the wait. You can definitely still tell it's a DAO trigger but it's much more smooth and a little less stout. I'm glad I had the work done and I expect this to enter my routine carry rotation along with my other most often carried pistols: HK P30SK & SIG P239.

The pistol still shoots low with a six o'clock hold (as it did before I sent it in). The low six rounds were from the first mag. For the last round of that mag and the next 43 rounds I held just above center of mass and it did very nicely with all rounds in the 9 ring. Shooting was 50 rounds total at 7 yards in an Isosceles stance.

I used to take a lot of gun photos with knives but haven't done much of it lately. I opened the boxes tonight and couldn't decide what knife to use so I chose several random ones.

I think I like these two best, especially the Spyderco Burch Chubby because it's short and stout like the CS9.

By the way, as nice as the CS9D trigger is now it is nowhere near as nice as the trigger on this 686. I had S&W do a Combat Revolver Package on it and both the double and single action triggers are phenomenal.

I think I've got one of their little autos from about 15 years ago laying around somewhere.
