Default Time frame on receiving a replacement gun

Let me start out by acknowledging that yes, I just joined the forum, and no I'm not trolling.

I had a 22a pistol with a ton of rounds (60k +) through it. It was my fun competition gun. It started failing to fire and failing to eject. It turns out that I cracked the cast aluminum frame above the trigger pin. So I called up Smith, and sent it back to them. They explained that the 22a is no longer in production, and consequently they would be sending me a new SW22. Cool.

That was August 2016. It's now January 2017. That's 5 months! I have no SW22. At some point in time, the gun was supposedly backordered, however 5 months have passed, and I'm positive it hasn't been backordered that entire time.

I'm wondering if anyone has a point of contact to someone specific at Smith because waiting 5 months is getting a bit long in tooth.

Thank you kindly for any insight you can offer.

/s/ Sean

I would go buy myself a new gun and go out and shoot it.......then when they do send one to you can sell it or sell off the used one. Sometimes you just can't rely on others. Of course you can always call them back.

I sent a S&W PPK/S back to the factory for a recall. It was a brand new pistol, I never fired it, it was perfect to look at. When they sent it back the right side of the trigger guard was butchered up by vise marks. I called a supervisor and was told to send it back, which I did. I was called and told I would receive a new PPK/S when they started making them again. It was several months later that they sent it to my dealer. Possibly they are not making the gun you sent back at this time, but they will send you one once they start making them again.

Call Smith. I suspect KSDeputy is correct. Firearms manufacturers routinely alternate production of various guns in the lineup. I have no direct experience with S&W in this regard, but Kel-Tec is famous for it. K-T has often underestimated the demand for certain models and shifted production to another. I was on a waiting list for 18 months before receiving my PMR 30.

I received a replacement revolver from S&W a couple weeks ago following a warranty issue. It took a month from the time I was notified I would be getting a replacement for the new gun to arrive. When I was on the phone with the S&W representative, he remarked that it could take one to three months, but since the revolver I was being shipped was popular, and they make a lot of them, it would probably be closer to a month. I'm gonna guess if the replacement would take a while because they don't make that many of them at a time, I would have also been told that. Give S&W a call. They will be happy to check on the progress of your claim, and it seemed to me that the reps have a good handle on the manufacturing timeline. They always were professional and courteous with me . . .
