Default Shorty Forty find

Last week I was in a pawn shop and came across a rough Shorty Forty. It was one of the first runs. It seemed mechanically sound, but its cosmetics were rough. Lots of holster wear and they tried to polish the slide. Lots of the black parts suck as safety and slide stop had holster wear on them also. I dont think it had the box. What is one in this condition worth? Im not a big 40 cal fan but I do like guns that are limited in production and I like gun projects but Im kinda stuck because I would like to take it on as a project, but its not a particular gun that is on my wish list.

Value opinions appreciated.

Unless you like the gun and want it as a shooter I'd pass. Even with limited production guns it is condition, condition, condition. If the gun frame is alloy it can be very costly to re-anodize a worn or damaged one.

Ditto........ I've got a Shorty-9 I got in 95/96 .....it's been carried and shot... not a safe Queen...in about 75-80 years it will be the ''Non-Registered Magnum" of it's day....... with the providence of having belonged to me ...aka BAM-BAM.

Value ......... to me "priceless"......really used vs abused is the question ( we have no pictures)...... I'd place a "used" 1990s PC in plus or minus 95% condition at $200-300 more than a "Factory stock" 6906 or 3913....... back then they were hand built and they are great shooting guns!!!!!!!

FWIW.......Mine is not my EDC ( that's an early 90s 3913NL) but sees about 75-100 days a year in a Sparks Executive Companion IWB holster..after 20 years..mine only shows wear on the "high spots/edges"......

What is the SN#? If cosmetics are the only problem, cerakote may be the answer. A set of Night sights and it could prove to be a very nice carry gun. I have a set, consecutive #'s, unfired, NIB, so I really do not want to carry one of those. Purchased 3/93 - Lew Horton?? I do not recall at this moment. I had tapped the front sight on table and it promptly came off, SW replaced it with a NS, and I still have an original. More info would be great. Be Safe,

The serial number was PCS01XX. Can't remember what the last 2 numbers were.

OP: Last 2 do not matter. It has lost some of it price due to condition, but if you can live with the cosmetics it would be a nice carry. Smaller than 4006/4046 and the trigger and action would " should" be better. Any photos possible? If you decide not to go with it, would you post the name of the shop. Be Safe,
